I use 5 tsp of carbon and I use 1/3 recommended dose of gfo in a reactor and I turn the flow to a trickle. It def affects my corals if I let my nutrients get to zero.
I'm not a "hard core" acro guy but I don't use GFO much at all anymore. If I have to do anything I use about 3-5 drops of lanthanum chloride over 2 or 3 days maybe once every [other] month.
Carbon I use sparingly. Maybe I change it out every other month. The reactor/amount I use is also undersized for the system.
I stopped using GFO 4 months ago and am much more stable with my phos levels. Carbon i use sparingly and low flow just to remove oxidized yellow pigments in the water
Iv run Phosgaurd which is aluminum based and i SWEAR is has almost killed some soft coral. Did a decent amount of searching and only a couple people have this experience. I run GFO now only every other month just to make sure everything is zero.
I have done experiments where i ran the Sechems Phosgaurd and within a couple days the soft coral will shrivel up.
At some point i need to sell this stuff i have a couple of canisters brand new
