Who uses ozone?

great ldrhawke and Tom thank you for the answers. Just one more question, (sorry if has been answered before, the thread has now 11 pages) - where can i get ozone proof tubing? would CO2 tubing be OK?
 
I was ****ed about prices for "ozone safe" tubing on-line...$2.50 a foot!!! I went to PetSmart just for kicks and found 25' of light blue tubing that right on it says "ozone and CO2 safe". $3.99 for the bag.

I thought $2.50 a foot was a bit crazy myself. I got the regular stuff for .99 for 10 feet. I figured I would keep my eye on it and replace as needed. I might have to check out petsmart though.
 
I couldn't tell if if the ones at champion include the air dryer or not. www.marinedepot.com has the 200 mg/h unit for $5 more but it includes the 250gram air dryer unit at that price. I upgraded mine to the 500gram unit for just the price difference. Champion lists the air dryer at $24. Also you can't beat marine depots free shipping on orders over $150!

I was shocked at the price on the tubing at marine depot though. Not sure what type of tubing it is that champion is selling but the stuff at marine depot is really nice neoprene stuff. I found it online at www.aquaticeco.com for $6.35 for 8' of it and marine depot price matched it for me.

Oh well, I just really like marine depot. Very fast and alway really nice to deal with.

My unit from Champion had the air dryer. Red Sea is including it in the box, so it shouldn't matter where you get it.

Cool, they should probably mention that on their site! What kind of tubing are they selling? The nice neoprene kind?
 
Well I just found out that Marine Depot is out of the Aquazone 100 I ordered last week. Maybe I should give Champion Lighting a try. I wonder if they would match the free shipping?
 
I use 50mg/hr ozone continousely 24 hours a day in a skimmer with no controller in a 100 gallon reef and have for over 25 years.
 
My LFS sells Lee ozone safe tubing (it's green) for about $6 for 25 feet. I'd check around locally before shelling out $2.50 a foot online.
 
let me jump in and ask a dumb question. is there a health risk with ozone use. for instance you run it through your skimmer and then the bubbles go out in the sump and into the room correct. it there the oder of ozone? i know in the cleaning business of ozzone rooms to clean smoke stained clothes and you couldnt stay in the room long or you would get a headach

there is a danger, but not with your standard aquarium equipment. You'd have to be sucking on the end of the tube to do any damage. Just run some carbon on top of your skimmer and at the output also!
 
Anyone run ozone in smaller reef tanks? I've never used ozone before, but after reading a lot about it I've been thinking of running it in my tank, threw my Remora.

Any opinions? Is ozone dangerous in smaller tanks...less room for error ?

Here's my question....Ozone generators are also being sold in the marketplace to clean the air in your home.
I was in Babies R Us last week and walked down an aisle and got slapped in the face by the ozone smell. There was a vendor there with a table set up promoting their various air purifiers. Clearly one of them was using ozone. Unfortunately the rep wasn't there at the time so I could ask and understand the logic.
If ozone is a respitory irritant, why the heck would I want to put one in my baby's room?!?!!!?

Looking into getting a Redsea AquaZone 50 next month. Do I absolutly need an ORP monitor or can it wait? Also I'll be hooking this up to my ASM G3 skimmer(Euroreef clone) Do I "T" into the venturi air line or plug directly into it?

I have been using ozone (50 mg/hr) on my 100 gallon reef for about 30 years. It runs all the time into my homemade skimmer. I dont test orp or have a controller. I also have never had a problem, I dont know if it has anything to do with the ozone but I figure, it can't hurt.

I've seen IONizers sold to clean air in the marketplace not Ozonators..huge difference.

Yep, I know what you mean. but these were Ozone air cleaners. If you know the smell of ozone (many non-fish people don't), then you know what I was smelling, there is no mistaking that odor.

I can't believe the EPA has this statement out and friggin Babies R Us was hosting this little party...
