Who uses ozone?

??????????

??????????

If the questions for me I have an etss 800 pro "the beast" twin bio towers. Sps dominated with a couple softies 3 fish

Im sorry, I was asking fugur cuts. MY primary interest in ozone would be for fish. Having a bowfront with a remora skimmer, I get the feeling my oxygen content is low. I was wondering if he used a skimmer prior to his ozone use. :)

Aquaman, I use an airpump (on low) to move the air up to the air intake. Not sure if it is needed with the pull of the ETSS, but couldn't hurt. I don't bother to use the air dryer anymore. It needed recharging all the time. I only set my RedSea 100mg unit on about 30-40% for my 225gal system. It doesn't run constantly unless something is going on in the system, like cleaning, or big time feeding, etc.

Warning....I've only been running the ozone for about a year now, but no leaks so far.

ORP=oxidative reduction potential--sort of a chemical measure of the tolerance of your tank environment to "insults".

Ozone=O3, a highly reactive form of oxygen that combines w/organics and reacts w/them among other things that happen. Used to directly boost ORP and to improve skimming. BTW, not something you want to directly inhale--considered one of the primary air pollutants of modern society w/cumulative damage effects to your lungs--that being said, aquarium units by and large emit relatively small amounts and what is emitted would typically get "reacted" w/the humid air about the tank quickly.

Thanks for the input

Thanks for the input

Someone told me they called etss today & they claim the unit is ozone safe but would not recommend using it. They claimed the contact time is to short. But after hearing all the positives I'm going to do it.

Thanks people & keep this thread alive!!

Question for everyone. I know that ozone can eat vinyl tubing and not PVC pipe, but what about Flex PVC pipe that they use for spas? Does anyone know if ozone damage Flex PVC if the if ozone is ran threw it?

for those using timers?

for those using timers?

for all of you who pump ozone into venturi skimmers for only a few hours a day I have a question. When the ozone unit is off can your venturi still get enough air to work well. Second do you use the ozone generators with an air pump or not with for a venturi skimmer.

One more question. I realize it will corrode all tubing and wiring it comes in contact with. Will it effect power cords that are in the main tank nowhere near the skimmer or skimmer return?

Ok, here is an easy diagram to understand how to plumb ozone without restricting any skimmers air intake. This will allow you to turn on or off your ozone and pump without affecting the skimmer. The only issue is if the skimmer is turned off, the ozone must be turned off as well.

Does anyone out there know if Flex PVC is safe from ozone like regular PVC is?

Jean-Paul,
It will cause a slight stiffening of the plastic but becuase of the heavy wall section it will take many years to seriously degrade the hose. Where are you using the ozone that it comes in contact with the Spaflex?

Do you have to have an airpump for ozone, or will the suction from the skimmer be enough to pull it in?
Thanks,
Steve

Steve,
usually the suction from the venturi is enough. That being said, the ozone unit can restrict the amount of air getting in, so w/a run of the mill one pump, one injector ER, you may actually get a drop in performance in your skimmer via less air. Going that route, probably would be better to use in on a dual pump type setup or a recirculating pump setup (external type setup).

Would a tee as Grim had in the diagram work? I'm thinking about going with ozone on my 75 when I move the ES8-2 over to it.
Thanks,
Steve

Steve,
yes--but that being the case maybe add a small airpump to be on the safe side like grim has in his diagram. You wanna make sure the ozone runs the right direction.

Here is a pic of how I inject ozone using an air pump. Pretty much the same thing as grim's diagram.

Here is how I use it with my etss skimmer. I plumbed a venturi valve into the water line to one of the towers and hooked up the ozone to the venturi valve
