Hi all i caught 1 of the mantis in my tank who wants it !

he is a smasher and sorry no pic atm he is in a home made bottle trap and i cant get a good picture
it is beige and red

he /it is around 2 inches maybe 3

cool! I'm in no rush for the mantis because I still need to mix the water for the tank. No I'm not just starting it I just need water to replace the stuff I will be taking out when I open the circulation between the 2 tanks.

ok well i am working on catching the next one it is green with like gold striped where the shell plates meet its pretyt cool looking.
i will send you a PM when i catch it and if you want it you can have it .

I am trying like heck to nab mine in a bottle trap. If you get the urge could you please post a full pic of the trap you are using.

Also, how are you placing the trap? By the lair? Out in the open?

One more Q. What type of bait did you get him with?

Hiya Landlord,
The trap i am using is made from a coke bottle single serving plastic type.

cut the top off to form a funnel

now turn funnel around and place in the bottle
i melted with a hot paper clip and a candle holes around the rim and threaded the holes with fishing line. i then ran the line out of the tank to a place where i could grab and pull when i saw IT/him/her in the trap

As for bait i just used some frozen krill ( food i got at the pet store) and i found its hiding spot and gave it a free meal one night.
The next night i pulled the trap out to re bait and when i placed it back down infront of its house it walked into the trap and i yanked the cord .. HA ! GOTCHA!


i had to leave trap in front of his hole a few days undisturbed before he would trust it enough to go near it .


as soon as i get home i will take a pic of the actuall trap in a few hrs.

I think we made the exact same trap. I too used a coke bottle and even stranger, baited it with frozen krill. I will just have to be more patient.

yup frozen krill is what i put in mine
i keep watching him/her/it go to the front of the bottle and check it out.
it was under the trap for a while too trying to get the bait.
I hope i can catch it soon
