Who wants to volunteer?

To do a demo on dipping for corals at the next meeting? We would like to see different corals dipping methods from different people in our club. And maybe have a round table discussion about dipping and pest control in our reef tank.

I am not volunteering. But I do have scans of the iodine dipping guidelines that were handed out back when Jeff and Mike were presidents, if those would be helpful.

In my opinion, iodine solutions are not the be all and end all of dips, but they have their place as a tool for the reef aquarist. Again IMHO, they are best used for disinfecting, such after fragging or a sting. They can be used as a dip on new corals though they tend to be harsh compared to some of the other dipping compounds.

My preference for a general purpose dip on new corals is Melafix Marine. It is harsh on pests without being too harsh on corals. Its active ingredient is an extract of the Melaleuca plant. It's what I used to win my war with aefw (along with persistance and determination).

Thanks Ken, I love to get a copy of that. Sometime we run out of our favorite dipping product such as Melafix and it's good to have something to fall back to even if it's old school.

The meeting is going to be in your neck of the wood, are you going to be able to make it? maybe do a quick demo on your Melafix dipping method to help out some of the newbies?

As a relative "newbie", I use CoralRX & Bayer's Advanced (insecticide).

I have way too much insecticide to ever use, so if I can find some small bottles, I'll bring maybe 10+ vials to share with everyone.

I use plastic containers with permanent marker written on the side to tell me how much water and dip chemical to put in. It helps me not have to look it up each time I want to dip.
