Who will share an evil laugh with me?

How about T-ing off your GenX to your skimmer also. I was getting the impression you are going to do a gravity feed on it. Might as well use some of that abundant power from the GenX for the skimmer, too.

whoa, cool overflow! i wanna make one too! or, if you needed a few bucks....i could use one for a 40breeder?!?!?

Mike,
I'm expecting some large flow rates in my 40 breeder also. I have a 1.5" durso and this is what I did for the overflow:

- Photobucket - much better...

That's the lighting from my camera/phone. It doesn't matter, though. It will be pink/purple soon enough. I might be able to paint it purple camo with the PVC cleaner like I did on the Durso. Hmmmmm.

It's John. Thanks for the offer, but I had the white already and it's already siliconed in place. I might ask for some in the future, though. The acryllic was some left over pieces I had from when I made my sump/fuge. Jarhead picked them up in the city for me a while ago. I think it was an art supply store, but I can't remember the name. I bought a bunch of precut sheets.

Oh, BTW. Mine is made of clear acrylic because that's what I had left. It's not as nice as the black, but I plan on having it covered in coraline.

Can you slide that eggcrate in and out for cleaning?

Think he said it was siliconed in.

Mike, where'd you get the acrylic and how'd you cut the teeth?

Brad, another RC member helped me with this since I don't have the tool to cut the teeth, Melev helped me out and I just paid him for the precut acrylic... and though I did silicone it in, the 3 individual pieces were glued together with Weldon 40. I need to buy some more of it for when I glue together my precut skimmer (I'm a RC whore, spazz is helping me with this one).

I just got a filter sock from Tony for the overflow return to the sump and aside from catching a lot of gunk its helping with the microbubbles a lot as well. Once I have some baffles in and redo the sump, I don't expect much microbubbles at all. I will also add a T and ball valve to the output of the GenX pump so that a small bit of it's power can be used to feed my skimmer. This will also tone down the main tank turbulence a bit and lower the overflow volume a bit also.

So until I setup my next 40 gallon sump with baffles and this 20 gallon sump gets turned into a nice seagrass refugium, I'm letting out my last evil laugh for this thread... muahahaahha

Those holes are like 1/2" square each. I wasn't planning on having to remove it. It's just siliconed in, so I could just pull it off and make a bracket if I end up needing to remove it periodically.

BTW- Brad- I was able to coraline-camo the eggcrate with the PVC prep.

I guess it's easy enough to clean in place, but I like being able to take mine to the sink to clean them. They do collect a wide variety of algae and other slippery, gooey things.

Nice megaflows. how thick is the acrylic?

different question....at Nerac a vendor made a small internal type overflow.....any particular input of making the small box vs. the large megaflow unit?
