Who's dosing vodka? And why?

ok here is what I Am talking about because it just does not make sense to me. I need to dose 0.1 for ever 25 gallons so that means i need to does 0.4 for my system. then after that you are to increase it to 0.8 now this is were i am lost and think many others are as well. by looking at the picture below how many lines is that? then we are supposed to increase every week by .5 does that mean 1/2 of a full 1 ml or 1/2 of a 0.1?
Thanks for all the help even though I am adding too the tank right now 1.3 In my mind that's all the way up the to 1 ml line and plus 1 line more is this right or am I over dosing?

it is increased by a half mL. so If you are at 1.5, you go to 2.0 next week. You are correct, in your current dose with that syringe. Each of the numbered lines is 1 whole mL, while each individual line is .2 mL.

However, like I said before, if you go up to 1.5 in a couple of days instead of 1.3 (the .2 mL is not going to hurt anything), it will be easier down the road to hit the mark than 1.3, 1.8 etc. You will be dosing 2.0, then 2.5, then 3.0 etc instead of weird decimal amounts. I hope I am not confusing you.

Finally I got it but they way it is written is a little confusing. At least that's out the way and I can go add some vodka in a little while.

The syringe in the picture is at .3ml. Each small line is .02ml.

I believe the syringe in the picture is at 3.0 mL and the total volume is 6 mL. Unless it is a micro syringe, which will be fairly small in diamter.

In any case, you can check your self. 5 mL is approximately equal to 1 teaspoon. Get a measuring spoon from your kitchen that is equal to 1 tsp, fill it up with water and remove the water with your syringe. It probably will not be right at the 5 mL mark, but if its close, you will know your syringe volume.

Correction: the syringe in the picture is set at 3 ml. Each small line is .2 ml.

Whew! You guys were scaring me with your answers. Glad that got cleared up. That is a 6ml syringe. Here are some examples, with the one on the right that holds a total of 1 ml. This one is included in the Salifert Magnesium and Calcium kits.

What test kits are you all using for phosphates? I am using Tropic Marin. The one I have is difficult, for me at least, to differentiate the lesser amounts.

I've used three: Salifert, Elos, and D&D/Merck. None are that difficult for me to read. Clear is what you want with those. Any color usually means you have some (or a lot!). ;)

One dose and my tank is looking better already! I have a plastic 1 ml. pipetter to measure it with. Of course one dose for the tank and one dose for me, gotta make sure the stuff is safe. Now to watch my skimmer go nuts. At least it's in the sump in case it overflows. Not like my old HOB Coralife on my old 55er.

One question I forgot to ask, I know its been said to monitor PO4 and NO3 while dosing, but in my tank I'm not detecting NO3 and I'm not positive my PO4 test kit is working, or at least I'm unable to read the pale colors. I have been battling bubble algae and within a week after cleaning and water change (~25%) I get a green layer of algae on my tank walls and a new growth of bubble algae. I have read before, that the algae can deplete your NO3 levels, therefor giving you semi false readings. Is this true?

I still plan on dosing, but I was going to watch the health of my tank (ie less algae) vs the numbers. Is this ok? Any suggestions?

Thanks melev made my life so much less complicated. Now for a nwe question for the experts that are dosing vodka.

I would like to know when I can dose my AA and my trace elements and extra trace
elements by elos.
I have read the others that are dosing vodka are adding iodine/iodide to there tanks because carbon dosing eats it up is this true?
Carbon dosing Aka vodka dosing will also affect minor trace elements is this true?
I am very happy with the dosing so far bu if I need to add extra stuff plaese let me know.
Thank you for showing me the happy world of vodka dosing.

The bacteria will metabolize metals and other trace an minor elements which will be consumed exported with them. These elements are readily replenished with water changes from your salt mix or in foods if you are feeding your tank. Adding trace or minor elements is an arguable practice with many for and many against. Personaly, for the most part if I can't measure it ,I don't dose it .The probability of raising certain elements to toxic levels is higher than the probability of any harm from an unlikely shortage,in my opinion.
