Very cool fish with lots of personality, but I wouldn't trust it with shrimp. I had a cleaner shrimp in the tank before I got the hawkfish. After putting the hawkfish in the tank, the shrimp would never come out in the open. I came home from work one day several weeks later, and the hawkfish had long antennae sticking out of its mouth. I added a few peppermints a short time later, and they disappeared one by one.
If you don't have any shrimp, I say definitely get the hawkfish. As someone mentioned earlier, you may be able to keep both if you keep the fish well fed.
