whos got a flame hawkfish?

zoas

zoas

The only problem I can think of with zoas is they may "sit" on them since they don't swim like most fish. Mine likes to sit on top of the algae magnet. We call it his fish condo.

Just a great, great fish. It is usually the "favorite" fish of people who look at my tank. I have some cleaner shrimp that it hasn't bothered, but I feed my tank heavily enough that it doesn't have to scavenge too much on its own.

They are winners all round. So much character - almost amusing. I stopped keeping one because I went full sps and wasn't sure if the perching would irritate polyps.
Also, shrimps will possibly be eaten (Brian seems to have gotten away with it :) but....who wants shrimps when you can have a flame hawk!!!!

I also have one in my sump (it is a very large sump) that I inherited from a nano I bought (I couldn't stand the thought of keeping it in the nano). I have wondered if the two would get along. It is nice to hear some keep two in a tank. I don't know if I will try it, but at least I know it is possible.

I bought a cleaner shrimp today, left to the movies, came back and my hawk fish can hardly breathe because of the oh so delicious $22 meal he just had. I've had a coral banded shrimp for quite some time without any issues. Lesson learned... Overall cool fish though.

Very cool fish with lots of personality, but I wouldn't trust it with shrimp. I had a cleaner shrimp in the tank before I got the hawkfish. After putting the hawkfish in the tank, the shrimp would never come out in the open. I came home from work one day several weeks later, and the hawkfish had long antennae sticking out of its mouth. I added a few peppermints a short time later, and they disappeared one by one.
If you don't have any shrimp, I say definitely get the hawkfish. As someone mentioned earlier, you may be able to keep both if you keep the fish well fed.

My flame hawk and speckled Hawk were the only fish that would go to my cleaners and allow them to clean them. I have some pics loaded on another forum of this but I must have never put them on PB.

Once I dosed with interceptor and knocked my shrimp out, I have not put anymore in the tank.

I have two in QT right now that were not paired when I got them. There was a little bickering the first two days and I have been out of town this weekend with the lights off. I will re-asses tonight and tomorrow and if they don't settle I'll have to separate them and get another one to try and pair.

I've had mine for a fwe years. The only shrimp I have is a large CBS. I do have loads of tiny BL hermits and all sorts of snails. Mine will appear and disapperat all over the tank, but I come over he usually pops out from somewhere. Great fish.

mine commited suicide by carpet surfing. it also ate all my shrimp and snails. it would always perch on my powerhead up top, then one day guess it wanted to go flying out the tank

here is my hawk....
