Who's had Ich with no treatment and tank survived?

How did you use Garlic? just liquid soaked in the food?

guyguerra. How sever was your outbreak? all the fish in the tank show signs?

It has left my tank twice now. Once at start up. Once recently when I added a Clown Tang.

When I added the Clown tang it was a full fledged outbreak. The fish that I have from startup only got a couple spots. The fish that I put in between startup and now got it bad. The clown tang had it worst of all.

...the tank is 1 1/2 yrs old and all fish are alive. The only fish I have lost are a few Blue Chromis that died of no apparent reason and two Purple Tangs that were harassed and got a variety of diseases including Black Ich that none of the other fish got. I havn't lost a fish to White Ich yet.

I did feed garlic...but I think the feeding schedule helped more than anything two or three times a day.

I recently had a very bad outbreak of ich. Several of my fish did not make it, including my favorite a Powder Blue Tang. I treated with Kick Ich which seemed to help but did not get rid of the ich completly. I added a UV sterilizer and with in a few weeks the Ich was gone. That was several months ago and I've only seen a few spots on my Lion once and they quickly went away. I had several people tell me that a Uv would affect my corals in a negative way but actualy they are doing quite well. Good luck.

Any updates? Recently moved 7 fairy wrasses from a 72 gallon to a 125 gallon. Its been about a month now since the transfer and i have not added anything new but live rock from an established tank.

Just last week, 5/7 wrasses showed signs of white dots. Maybe about 10 dots on the body, but my flame wrasse had it all over his body. I started to feed foods soaked in garlic. So far the dots seem to be going away from the flame and the other wrasses but from what i read this is normal with ick.

I can take them all out and either do "hypo" or "copper", but it won't be in a big tank, maybe a 30 gallon rubbermaid container. I fear like someone stated before, "the cure is worst the the illness". I'm hoping the wrasses can get better on their own.

I put in a royal gramma in December. A short time after I got her, I saw a few spots and she was rubbing on the rocks. I feed well, use garlic, and keep my water prisitine. She seemed to clear up right away with no more problems. Then in January, I added an emporer angel. I didn't see any problems or spots until a few days ago - 6 weeks after the emporer was added. The gramma had several spots and was flashing constantly but the emporer wasn't symptomatic except for some discoloration and he appeared with what looked like the beginnings of HLLE. I was able to catch the emporer easily and get him into QT but thus far have not been able to catch the royal gramma and she is looking terrible. Today is the 5th day of QT coppersafe treatment and the emporer seems to be doing ok. He's eating like a pig, breathing normally, and I don't see any spots. He still looks a little discolored and there are 2 spots that still look like HLLE to me. I'm going to continue treating him for the full 30 days and I will allow the tank to go fallow for 6 weeks while he's in treatment. From now on, everything will be QT'd, fish will probably get a prophylactic round of medicated treatment for common diseases to try and prevent it from getting into the display.

if you dont feel like adding anything in the tank, the best best is to get a cleaner shrimp. a cleaner wrasse does a fantastic job too. and get a UV sterilizer. I have one of each and it seems to do a good job.

I don't know if its been stated before but I believe that a mature tank will have less occurance of Ich outbreaks. Does anyone notice this with their tanks? Its a bit like when you first start up, there are tons of different types of blooms, pods, algae, diatoms, etc. I for one think that Ich is very similar, but once the tank has the time to become stable and mature, the number of parasites will dimish, if you don't keep introducing them of course.

Yes I notice this too. My tank gets an outbreak of ich about every 25 years now :lol:

You can treat without medication. Uv sterilizer is good. At the same time try to reduce the salinity below 1.02 like 1.0 and raise the temp. around 80. Once it's gone, you can start adjust all those to normal.

well she was about the oldest person on the planet

and you have the oldes tank in the world so maybe she is watching over it.
