Who's running under T5s?

If your bulbs are new I would keep them low in the tank, maybe slightly shaded until they are fully acclimated

Nice tank hciev. Thanks for posting the picture, it helps me see what can be done with T5s. I see you have a custom 20 gallon, so how deep would it be?

So which likes more light? Ricordias or Shrooms, or are they both in the same ball park?

No problem. The tank is 12" high, and I would say the rics are between 12 and 8 inches away from the light. Ricordea florideas like more light. Ricordea Yumas like a lot of light as well, but the pinks are more sensitive. Regular discomosa (sp?) shrooms are fine with either intense or dim lighting. The key is acclimation. If the ricordeas come straight from the ocean or LFS, start very low and shaded, when they start to curl up for more light, then move them up. If they were aquacultured, they should be used to intense light. I like T5 because of the flexibility, but rics do fine for me either under T5 or MH.

Here is another picture of some Florida rics under a 70w MH (12 - 15" from light source), obviously they would like to have more light, see the curling....

I would suggest, always start shaded, they won't die from lack of light, and when they acclimate to your tank, they will begin "reaching" for more light, at which time you can move them up ;)

HTH,

hceiv, how often do your Rics replicate?

Mine split very slowly. Often rics will develop multiple mouths but just won't split! If that happens, and you are in a hurry for more, take a very sharp razor and cut between the mouths. Voila! You have two or three or four or .......... ;)
