why are clowns misbarred

I have two black and white percula clowns that are misbarred. I was wondering if their bars would grow all the way around their bodies or would they maintain their patterns throughout adulthood? Also, are misbarred clowns a sign of inbreeding? Do people prefer misbarred clowns or the typical pattern?

If your clowns are still young juveniles they may grow full bars within the next couple months. Misbarred clowns aren't necessarily from inbreeding. Many wild clowns come in misbarred too.

misbars used to be culled and fed to other fish to keep lines breeding true. now anything 'unusual' gets kept and bred to create more 'unusual' fish.

IMO, they should all still be culled.

like viper_930 said, misbars occur in nature as well. there are many people who think misbars come from poor water quality in the larval stage. FWIW, I've heard of misbar parents producing "normal" offspring.

As to what people prefer, that's up to the individual. Picasso and snowflake clowns are both essentially misbars and while some people love them, some people think its ugly.

I think misbarred is neat, makes the fish more unique.
Fish are like everyliving thing.
no 2 are EXACTLY alike, not even twins.

i bought a misbar about two months ago and it has a white dot right under his chin. At first i almost didn't buy it, but then i decieded that it might look cool and give my tank some character.
