Why are picasso clowns so popular?

It's the newest fad, IMO. Price is dictated by availability. The more rare a fish, the more expensive it is.

I have 4 tank raised O. clowns. Each look diferent and they are easily to tell apart. 3 are misbarred. Even our youngest son, a 6 yr old, can tell them apart enough to name them.

I look at it as "to each his own" though. I think the all white clowns are the ugliest fish I have ever seen. They are chalky and white and look deformed. Just like a Chinese Crested dog; ugly as all get out, but people love them.

I'll take a Perc or O. clown all day. Maybe a black pair one day.

I love my chinese cresteds! I have 2. They are definitely unique. And yes my husband would call them ugly.

I knew somebody with a CC would post...LOL

We have Greyhounds. They get called ugly on occasion. I just ask them if their dog wants to race mine :)

Further illustration of to each his own.

simply because it is human nature to love change!!!! ..... the cutting edge the new ...... when somethinf has been the same for so long and then radically changes .... human kind is drawn to that by our natural instinct to accept change!!!!!

I think they are striking myself. Not worth what they cost to me anyway.

The pattern and color are great but to me, the shape is most important. Can't have those smug mouth and deformed gills. Too many of those Picasso, at least those that I saw in person, have deformities in body shape which is really too bad

Lol I laughed when I read about the CC.. I have some people say mine is the most beautiful dog they have ever seen, and some say she is the ugliest!! My clown is also a very rare type, I will go back I to my notes to find the name, here is a pic of both my Clown and my CC :)

That is the beauty of our world, everybody has different tastes, and thus all creatures, and people, have a chance to be loved by somebody! :)

So there is just one breeder of this type of clownfish and this breeder has just one pair of this coloring pattern (to my understanding) and it is being called Meteor or Galaxy (it is a Clarkii btw)
:)

I am pretty sure your fish are ORA Spotcinctus clownfish.
Spotcinctus are Bicinctus clownfish (red sea ywo stripe clown) that are picasso like with there spots and extra white.

Yours are so dark since there in a haddoni.

Mine were in a rbta when there were babies and have kept there yellowish colors.

I chose them because of how beautiful they are. Shape is also important to me so I spent several months searching daily to find the perfect one. I agree that it's cool that no one else will have a clown that replicates mine. I just like everything from the white in the middle that stretches from head to tail. I like the white helmet on the clown. I like that they are tank bred.

I just love my babies:

aandfsoccr04,
Nice clowns. Very distinctive and unusually Magnifica also.

Azasb,
Extra white coloration is genetic in origin. Lack of white seem to be environmental in origin. Both Picasso parents will give a lot of the babies that are normal and some with the extra white. Normal Percula rarely give baby white extra white

Yes aandfsoccr04 those are gorgeous. If I was ever crazy enough to spend what they cost, I'd definitely have to buy WYSIWYG. Some of the more white one's (platinum, etc.) look like they got dipped in acid or something. I don't find those appealing at all. Right now I'll stick with my plain percs. I do have one with wavy lines tho, it's cool looking.

Thank you for the copliments! I love them a lot and watch them a lot of the time I look at the tank.

Picasso clowns are the only designer clown I would buy. I would say that it has to do with them not being too white, black, or orange. To me they have a balance to them in a way. If I can ever find the perfect two for myself, and have the money at the time, then I will buy both.

i been breeding clowns for a few years now and i have to say that my picasso clowns are the faster selling ones that i have. sell faster then the black ice and platinums

Dear aandfsoccr04;

What is the origine of your picasso? and how old are they?

I agree on the platinums. I just don't find them attractive at all. I like the snowflakes, and that's about it.
