Your teacher is probably referring to wild caught seahorses. Captive bred seahorses are not nearly as difficult as most people believe, and are much easier to take care of than wild caught seahorses. In some cases, even complete beginners have been able to successfully care for captive bred seahorses! I hope this answers your question!

Most seahorses have very special needs for food. They swim slowly and if kept with other faster fish they may not get enough to eat. But you can keep a pair or small group fairly successfully if they are the only type of fish in the tank.

They can be sometimes persuaded to eat frozen food, but most of the time they're very picky. If you want a seahorse, you'll need to do a lot of research on how to set up and cycle a saltwater aquarium.

In fact, almost all, if not all, tank raised and captive bred seahorses are trained to eat frozen before they leave the breeding source.

I agree with Rayjay.

Captive bred Seahorses can make for (relatively) hardy and interesting aquarium subjects. I've even seen some trained to just eat mysis out of a dish that is simply topped up every day.
