Why cant the cheap ones jump!!!

So the fish have been in the stock tank for 2 weeks and so far my mustard tang went through my 1.5 inch drain and is living in my sump so that is no big deal but today I saw my pepperment hog dried up on the floor. O well easy come easy go, I will get another one of those very cool fish just wish they didnt cost so much.

Sorry to hear it, John. That is one of the big drawbacks of stock tanks...the jumpers. I have had a couple big turbo snails fall over the edge to their deaths too.

Already flushed it, it is a good thing it wasnt Chelsey I think that fish is the only reason She likes the tank. I need to get of my dead butt and get the tank up and running soon.

not to steal you thunder.... my fox face which is about 6" jumped out of my display and some how landed in the sump.... until he learns his lesson he is banished from the display.... He'll teach the other fishes to do the same... and that does not work in my house.

Still only around 6' x 6', with eggcrate coming in 2' x 4' pieces, $30 for 3 pieces and a few zip ties doesn't seem like that big of an investment. And I have had fish go through it, but it definitely lowers the odds.

you could make a pvc frame and use fishing line to make a screen. that is what i did for my tank when my 2 scissortail gobies jumped through the eggcrate.

I'm probably going to do something similar for my tank to keep my fish from jumping, but I haven't figured out a way to make one that doesn't detract from my tank. I was thinking about maybe using acrylic...

They have those plastic screens that are similar to the screens on your windows. I haven't read anything on it, but I would wonder if acrylic would skew the light going into the tank weakening it.

I was going to use some kind of netting for the top, kind of like what you were talking about, and then acrylic for the "base" structure, kind of like a picture frame with acrylic. I have it figured out in my head, but you can't see in there...I guess I should've been more clear

My jawfish took a dive on the floor the same night I got him, needless to say he was dead by the next mornign when I found him

Funny story- I had a black comb tooth blenny and he was a model citizen for over a month he even took care of some hair algae for me- until he jumped one night. I replaced him with a blue and gold blenny who started nipping corals and my clam on the 3rd day I had him. So I was hoping he'd go carpet surfing but no such luck! I had to siphon him out after he had destroyed a montipora digitata that must have tasted really good to him.
