Why Corals have Thin Branches

Hello all,

I notice that corals in my tank have thiner branches than other reefers; compared with the same species.
Could anyone tell me why?

Thanks,

Some corals have thin branches. But, if you notice many of your coral's branches are much thinner than the same colonies in other people's tanks. Then you are not providing enough flow.

Thanks RichConley and JB NY.

Right now I have 3 Tunze 6100s with multi controller, plus Mag 24 return pump in my 300g tank, (60x48x24).
How much flow do you think my tank should needs?
Here is my tank for reference.

Those are some awesome Efflos/solis.

I'd be looking at a couple more 6100s, or maybe some 6200s.

You're right around 30x turnover if I've estimated correctly. I like to be around 60-70, but I've never had a tank that big, so I dont know if things scale in a linear manner.

could also be low light. there's a tank like that in our club, where everything in there grows a bit leggy. he's got more flow than anyone, but less light.

i also think that the controllable vortechs would be a great addition, and they wont take up as much space as streams, and they will provide flow even when the power is out if you get the battery backups.......if you have the green, i think these will do the trick...

beautiful setup-BTW I'll have some of the &$*&$ on top.

Looks like all the flow is coming from the back of the tank as well. Maybe moving the streams horizontally, pointing at each other would do the trick. Just a thought.

Nice setup!
I would add some more flow as well and would point them blowing across the front of the tank . I have mine facing each other on opposite sides of the tank.

I think you need to play with the positioning of the streams. I had 25x turnover in my tank, and I got some very thick branched acros.

i can second play with the positioning, i have 2 6100's in my 3 ft 75 gallon i also have a mag 18 return but wasnt getting the flow i wanted so i switched things up by moving em one on bottom R corner and one on top L corner it really made a difference.

p.s. no Johnny Walker blue label?

Thank you all for your value comments.
I will try to reposition them and hope it works.
proboscis, no Johnny Walker yet, but I will.
