Why did he die!?!?!?!?

I am so disappointed. My Multi-Color angel which I had in quarantine for 5 weeks died. He ate like a pig was very active and alert and had no signs of any disease or bacteria infections.

Amn 0
Nitrite 0
PH 8.2
Temp 81
Hypo at 11 ppt

Does anybody have any ideas?!?!?!? I really want to know what went wrong?

No medication. The only thing differenct is the fish was in hyposalinity.

Unless you do a post mortem, there is little light that can be shed on the event.

Fish traumatized during handling (dropping on the floor, netting, rough handling, etc.) can look fine at the outset, but have suffered harm (internally, mentally, etc.). Such effects can take weeks to manifest themselves.

You can try to scope out probabilities by reviewing backwards the trip the fish went through and how many of the handlers may or may not have been diligent and trustworthy. It was a pet to you but unfortunately it was a commodity to all those who have handled it to get it to you.

The LFS told me that its because I had the fish in hypo for more then 4 weeks. I have done it more then 4 weeks everytime. I guess I am just annoyed that he died.

I wouldn't take what your LFS said seriously. That is not the reason for the fish's passing, IMHO. If you performed hyposalinity properly, controlling all normal water quality issues, then that part of the equation can be eliminated.

You've posted and participated here at RC long enough for me to have some trust and confidence in your ability.

I'm sure you know that fish die during the process of capture, holding, shipping to exports, shipping to wholesalers, holding, and shipping to LFS/customers. Their death is from stress, trauma and poor conditions for the most part. That stress and trauma can manifest itself days or weeks after the fish gets to the LFS or your tank. I believe that this is the highest probability for the loss of a new fish in an aquarist's tank that exhibits no signs of disease or illness, with proper water quality.

Thank you Lee, thatââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s a great compliment coming from you. I know they are wrong and I know what you are saying is right and I just have to live with it. He is a pricy fish and I babied him so But thatââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s part of being in this hobby sometimes you just loose some even though they look great.

I am planning to get another one and try one more time. I know its not recommended but can I quarantine him with another fish like another small angel?

You've answered your own question!

I would not quarantee two fishes together, let alone two angels. They will have enough to contend with, without having to contend with each other.
