Why didn't I do BB?

Well went up stairs and found one my powerheads in my 36 on the bottom of the tank. Well running at over 300 gph it managed to push all my sand to the other end of the tank. Well the pump burt up as well as another rio on the tank and the power filter. Then to make it worse the huge powerfilter on my 20 started making strange noises and the motor felt very hot. I was so mad because the 36 just started to clear up and now its a complete cloudy mess. I might have to hold off on some of the zoas for now I wanted to order and buy new pumps and filters.

Well for one they fell because you didnt mount them properly ;) What I would like to know is what happened to make all these pumps go bad at once?

I have no idea. Im not having good luck with pumps. Im going to try to mount all my pumps on those algae magnets today. I'm not sure if only having 3 out of the 4 suction cups would be the reason. The powerfilters im not too worried about because I'm getting skimmers for both tanks anyways.

Suction cups fail all the time. I no longer rely on them. I usually only use them for buffering any possible vibration that would attribute to noise.

I say they suck... as in they don't work. I'm going to be ordering some seios from Premium Aquatics to replace all the smaller powerheads I have in my tanks.

They suck really good if you keep them clean but if you dont then they suck. I think I just confused myself :)

That could be a reason. I've never cleaned any of my suction cups.

Dwayne got it.:)

Yeah it helps to keep them clean. What happens is a combination of a few things. Suction cups work because the rubber is flexible enough and smooth enough to conform to the shape of the glass and not loose any suction and fall off. Over time the rubber becomes less flexible. Coralline starts forming (even if you can't see it with the naked eye) and causes it to not be able to bend to the shape of the glass. Also debris can accumulate between the suction cup and the glass, making the surface of the suction cup less smooth and not able to maintain suction. Then there's the suction cup material itself slowly breaking down over time, which you can't do anything about.

None of my PH are mounted using suction cups anymore. I had one fall, but luckily the power cord kept it from falling clear to the bottom.

You can glue them to the magnetic glass cleaners.
