why do my false perc clowns only host my GBTA at night?

They only swim near it during the day, but at night they actually rest inside of it

they've only been in the tank for a week though

Probably gives them a sense of protection during the dark hours of the tank. I bet they will start hosting all the time with more time in the tank,

IMO, i think they only host the anemone ONLY when threatened and if there are other fish in the tank as well... like what KEstep said, it gives them a sense of protection, but by day, they don't feel threatened. Daily routines won't scare the clown(s), but i bet if you put a net in the tank, they'll go "running" back to the anemone or lifting the lights away from the tank. If all you have is clown(s) in the tank, chances are they won't need to host it all the time.

They'll host when and if they feel like it.

One of my clarkii currently has a 72gal all to himself and I can barely get him to leave his BTA for 2 seconds to eat. Of course every morning he's in his LTA so he must get out of the anemone at least twice on purpose.

My ocellaris pair have had their anemone for almost a year (RBTA). The male hosts sometimes during the day. The female, never during the day. The male always sleeps in it at night. The female, usually, but sometimes I find her sitting on my closed hammer coral. I too beleive they don't host much during the day because they are the dominant fish in the tank with nothing to fear. JMO.
