Why do palys pinch at the base?

It seems like half of the new "palys" that I introduce into my tank pinch at the bottom of the stalk until the polyp falls off and dies.

Two recent introductions are beginning this process it seems. Originally I had them on a frag rack at the top of the tank, in medium flow. I have now moved them to the bottom with low flow.

What else can I do to ensure their survival?

I have no idea if they are actually palys, I am using the term loosely. The base pinches and eventually the polyp will float away.

The pinching has stopped for the most part so hopefully they are recovering. I suspect they are trying to adjust to my system.

I do not have a picture right now, sorry. Basically the base of the polyps shrink in diameter while the polyp stays the same size.

There are some "African Blues" or "blue steel" zoas that were doing that to everyone and after some careful study they determined that it was some sort of protozoa. Could be that... Have you tried dipping them in iodine or some sort of coral wash?

I used a very strong iodine dip, along with revive, before they went into my system. Perhaps this stressed them out too much.

Some of them are known as "everlasting gobstoppers", I picked these up at a frag swap recently. Hopefully these are not known for dying off.
