i seen people put tangs in 34 gallon cubes before and the fish starts to swim and it bumps into a wall.i have a yellow tang in a 5ft tank and i kinda feel bad it builds up some speed only to stop suddenly to turn around.there was a post i seen a guy had a l shaped 25ft tank with tangs and they were cruzing around it looked more natural then bouncing around in a 24"x24" cube just venting.

Never had tangs in anything smaller than a 110 but it was so full of rock and coral I felt bad for it. It used to swim up and down while swimming across the tank.. I guess for fun :thumbdown

sometimes sarcasm is hard to show on the internet, my post was makign fun of the OP, I was not serious

I always like to use the < sarcasm > < / sarcasm > tags

edit..except this board removes them if you don't use some spaces.. silly filters.
great now I'm gonna get a "warning" for trying to fool the text filters again..

ban! ;)

A lot of newcomers just plain don't understand the size requirements for tangs, and anything less than an honest LFS employee will sell them just to make the sale. Other people keep small tangs in small tanks with plans of moving them to a bigger tank when they grow up.

Tangs are awesome fish, most tanks just aren't big enough for them.

because they're pretty and they fit...for a short while. People don't consider the long term needs, or that plan to upgrade never happens if they did think ahead.

its like asking why people have like 10 kids when they have couldnt afford them. i just think most people in general r irresponsible.

you should be able to remove it with some duct tape, an avocado and a snorkel

They put them in small tanks because that's all they can afford to do ,or have space issues. But they are going to have a tang come hell or high water!!!

I like to think for the most part it is just new impulsiveness. Not knowing any better. But I have seen my fair share of people who don't care. if they could stuff a great white into a nano they would.

I think I'm going to end up ruffling a few feathers, but here goes. It's not as bad as it being made out to be. As far as tangs go, I am a multiple offender. First offense, I have 4 tangs in one tank. Second offense, my tank is only 150 gallons. Third offense, I have a naso tang (RC min 240 gal), a hippo (RC min 240 gal), and a tennenti (LA min 180 gal). The only correct tang for my tank is the purple tang. So, fourth offense multiplied 3 times is that I have 3 tangs altogether that my tank is too small for.

Guess what? I've had them for almost 3 years. The are fat, they are happy, they co-exist well. And..... I am fat, I am happy, and I co-exist well with them :). That's all, folks :D

Ask a fish whisperer and he would probably disagree lol

A 6 foot 150 is a lot different than a 150DD (3x3). Size suggestions are just a rule of thumb like "watts per gallon". It really depends on the specific dimensions of that tank

people used to ask me why I had a big dog in a city home with a small yard. I would always respond that the dog didn't know there were homes with bigger yards, and keep your voice down 'cause I don't want him to hear you.

beyond the comments about all of us keeping ocean fish in little glass tanks...and the great comment of fat and happy tangs by Palting...

On a very serious note, there is one major upside to this problem: it keeps the Tang Police busy.
