Why do they hide

I've had three anemones that move along the tank from what I heard until they like a spot then they will stay there. However, 2 of ours seemed to have died because I can no longer find them, Recently the other one was out and visable but now seems to have disappeared as well. Do they not like the lighting or just like to stay hidden in the rocks? I have 2 clown fish that never really did find them to swim in them to maybe settle them down. Any suggestions or hints to maybe helping keep them more visable.

Would like a little more information... Tank size? What type of lighting? What kind of anemone? Water parameters? Age of system? How long have they been in there? How did you acclimate them?

Oh sorry....My tank is 125G 40G refuge and 35G sump. Tank is 2 years old. Nitrate 10ppm
mag 1350 cal 420 ph 8.3 salinity 1.021. I dripped acclimated for about 45 min. I dont know what kind .

1.021 is way too low to keep inverts IMO.
You really need to bring it up slowly to 1.025 at least. I keep mine at 1.027.

Also, that looks to be a sick M. Doreensis, a sand dwelling anemone.

That anemone is M. doreensis, a sand anemone. The reason why it keeps slipping back into the rocks is that it is looking for sand. Trying placing it in the sand and see how it does.

I purchased the same anemone about 2 weeks ago. Mine kept trying to go down in between the rocks as well but i kept pulling him out before he got too far down. I woke up one morning and he was laying sideways on he sand close to a few rocks. That afternoon he backed up too the rocks and dug a hole in the sand in between the rocks. Seems happy as can be now and fully open.

I didn't know what kind of anemone it was ether so thanks for the ID.

Well thanks for the suggestions. I'm not sure about raising the salt but will look into it.
