Why do we do this?

Sitting at a airport about to go home for the holidays, and I realized I miss my aquarium like all the time. My day is not complete without seeing it. I know this is not really a discussion but I want to know. Why do you people continue reefing with all the cost and hard ships and time and money we sink into our tank why do you continue to do it? Just curious and happy holidays :)

On train to Wales from London ... Just checked Apex Fusion and now on forums ..
I have no life I guess. All the best to all ...for whatever holiday you celebrate or not.

I spend literally 1/2 my life on the road every other week. Mounted a camera on the front glass of my large tank just to be able to check on the kids while I'm away.
Why do I do it? It makes me happy. It's challenging, rewarding, and I'm proud of what I've created.
Of course, there's also the fame, glory, and glamourous lifestyle...

What camera did you use and with what app? I work 20 minutes from home and wouldn't mind being able to check in during the day or show off at the office.

A less pleasant way of looking at it is it is an odd addiction. I know a lot of hobbyists. People who are into cars, guns, wood working, painting, photography, ect. Never have I seen such a hobby that draws people in to the point that it dominates their every train of thought basically 100% of their downtime and even a great portion of time they should be focusing on work or family. I am supremely guilty of this myself.

I'll check forums and mess with the tank when I should be working on my career or being more present with my family. It's not so much that I am intentionally putting my real life in the passenger seat, it's just the way my brain works. I know I'm not the only one that feels that way too. I don't know any other hobbies that will drive their hobbyists to spend Christmas sitting on the couch surrounded by family in the home, but only passively participating because they're busy daydreaming about their tank, or texting someone about the hobby or reading a forum, ect. It is what it is.

Got a Ring doorbell at Xmas from my company last year. Didn't have another use for it, so I attached a magnet and mount it on various portions of the tank. Glued on a yellow filter to help with the lighting, works pretty good.

Yea i went to alabama from virginia drove.. To visit my brother.. and im bored here.. and all i can think of is my fish tank lol.

I worry itll leak. or fish will die.. and one problem is no one is taking care of them for 3 days because my friend is working. She wont be able to go feed and check them until Monday..

My corals will be ok with my timer on my light but still.. most of my fish i got within the last month so i worry.

But i have like 8 tanks..

I think I would go insane if I didn’t have my underwater world to escape to. I look after someone who is very sick, so I don’t get out much.
