Why does everything in my tank have better color and look happier at higher temps?

when the temp is 79-80 not so much color and not everything is open but when it gets up to 85, 86, 87 all looks great and is open, is there a reason for this....is it because 84-86 degrees is closer to natural temperatures in the ocean?

Thank you, Rich-

Those temperatures seem to be at the upper limits of what corals can withstand if I remember correctly. Personally I have experienced bleaching above 85 degrees. It could be that your thermometer is calibrated differently than mine. Maybe check it out versus another source. Corals may seem more expanded at higher temps to increase respiration. This may or may not be a good thing. HTH

i second checking the thermometer with another one. i know i have 3 different tanks each thermo brand seems to be calibrated differently.

Be careful that the readings are correct. I had coralline bleaching occur at 85 as measured by 2 different thermometers.

Those handheld laser thermometers are pretty cheap and very accurate. I'd use one of those. That's what I use to check my tank.

I agree that +/- 4 degrees is a large margin. But I never saw anything about that margin of error on other laser therm's.

You guys are cirrect sorry, I thought it was +/- 2 F, well here are some that a little pricey but I am sure you could find these cheaper on ebay, but these are supposed to be very accurate.
