Why is a Choati wrasse an expert level fish?

I've even heard that a lot of those that do eat do not live all that long either. I've seen some very experience people loose more than then thrived.

Google choati wrasse quarantine. There are some very useful tips there. Hope that helps. I've had mine for over 2 years and eats anything.

Typically upwards of $200.

But they are likely the MOST difficult leopard to keep. IF you can get them past the introductory period and eating, they are quite sensitive to parameter swings.

If you have no experience with wrasses, and especially leopard wrasses, this probably isn't a wise investment.

I would be interested to know the longevity of these fish. I can think of no one I know that has kept one for over 5 years. (n=8)

Same for basslets like the candy.

I tried it only once lasted 5 hours
My friends tried it 5-10x to keep one alive so far nothing past the qt process
Only Ali ( project reef ) @ amazing reefs have a thriving one after 10 tries

I picked one up from PIA in April, 2012. Put it in Qt for 5 weeks where I started it eating with live brine, live tigger pods and frozen cyclopeeze. Now it is a fat pig. East everything I throw in the tank, including flakes and pellets. Great looking fish.

Was your QT established with rock and everything or was it barebottom with PVC pipe? I'd love to know more about your setup. What are your other tankmates?

Are you sure he still has it? I don't think I've seen it at his shop.

The QT was pretty bare. A piece of live rock and some PVC pipe. I treated with Prazipro and Copper during QT so there is not much to pick at on the live rock. The key was having different live foods available throughout the day. The tank is at my office, so I was able to offer food five or six times a day. The QT is a 24 gallon tank and I did 5 gallon weekly water changes with water from my display. The Chaoti was in QT with three Ventralis anthias, also from PIA. All four fish made it through QT eating well.

The Choati is in the DT with three Ventralis, a purple tang, two percula clowns, and Earli wrasse, a mandarin and two black cardinals and a goby.

Wow that's awesome! What as the order of stocking in the display tank?

PIA is a very good source since they probably condition the fish before shippong it.

The latest batch from LA wholesaler have no survivor according to Eric @ Sdc
Maybe how they are collected and transport:(

Great looking fish but I won't get another one.

a buddy of mine has had 2 with great success what he attributes to his success is that he threw them in directly to the display no quarantine i may have to try that my self so far i have tried 2 could not get them pass the quarantine period
