Why is my contrast trashed?

When my photos are uploaded to Photobucket the contrast is trashed. It won't upload my photo as it is in my picuture folder. All the black in the background is gone.

Any clue why this is happening or anything I can do? It isn't downloading the exact copy. It only seems noticable on shots with a lot of depth.

Is it possible I only see the washed out look and my browser is doing it?

I can't see your linked image here, looks like you may have moved it? Where from and in what format are you trying to upload it?

I fixed the OP........... the shot above I overexposed & adjusted it post processing.

I just took this one with better contrast in the original RAW shot. I didn't do any contrast or brightness adjusting post shoot.

Both are Jpegs

Very nice. I often find that shots in Lightroom look good to me, then when converting from raw to jpeg and uploading to a hosting site, they look universally brighter.

Ok thanks, so there is some type of brightness flaw with those sites?............I guess I'll have to pay more attention when I snap the original shot.

The weird thing was I post processed that first pic with overdone color saturation & contrast & it still showed up the same as the first pic.

Some sites employ automatic compression when large pics are uploaded. You may be running into that. And not all software applications are color aware, which could explain the visual differences you're seeing with the same pic in different apps.

Even many popular browsers are not color aware / do not manage image color profiles properly. Safari and Firefox do, but IE and Chrome do not.

Here's a link from this year on browser color support: browser color

Thank you for the link.................interesting stuff.

I found a way to work around it. I took a snapshot jpeg with Hypersnap & downloaded that jpeg to photobucket---

I see the issue you are describing between your first and last posts.

Corrections on browser color icc profile support. I tested IE, Firefox and Chrome on my Windows 7 machine and they all display the car as yellow. With Chrome now being compliant, I wonder if my android phone browser will soon be (purple car)...

I've run into similar problems with photobucket. They resave and compress any jpg you upload with whatever icc color profile they use, completely wipes out whatever you give your file. FYI, if you upload the image as a png it isn't altered in any way.
