Why no polyp extension

Why doesn't this frag not have any polyp extension? It was treated for red bugs and flat worms and sent through qt. There has not been any color loss and everything else in the tank looks great. I even checked last night to see if the polyps only extend at night. With a flash light I could not see any. Is this typical for this type of acro? I am sorry that i do not know the name. If anyone has guidance on this than I will appreciate that also.

Here are the pictures.

Thank you all in advance, Chris

No, not that I have noticed any. I hope it is new growth. I even looked at it really close and you can see nice coloration throughout the coral.

Whenever there is tip recession, there is still really nice coloration in the coral. Mine was cause by instable ALK, what is you alk at?

I doubt it's new growth, frags usually put down a base first before any upward growth is noticed. I would just keep an eye on it and not mess with it at all if it can be helped, just give it time to recover it can take upwards of a month or more until you start seeing positive signs

I agree with the establishing a base. As for the Alk, I tested everything the other day and all my levels were perfect.

Ph 8.19
Temp 78.3
CA 400
MG ~1375
Alk 2.86 meq/l
Kh 8.0 dKH

These were done on monday. And everything else looks great, no signs of stress. Maybe i just need to wait. I am just so worried with everyone talking about red bugs, flat worms, monti eaters and so on.

Yes just try and be patient, I know it's hard but patients will reward you tenfold in this hobby!

Check with a flashlight at night and see if the polyps are extending especially on the white tips. If there are then chances are it's not receding

Check your flow. I have two frags of valida one is tucked away in moderate flow and it has better extension than the one in the higher flow area. Now, the one in the higher flow has bright new tips and faster growth. So, I would say that it gets enough nutrients without having to fully extend it's polyps. Maybe you have a similar situation - if it's not recession. I can't tell from the pic.

I guess patience is a virtue we all must learn from. Everything looks good so I guess I will have to sit and wait.

As for flow it is decent flow, as you can see in my profile I have 2 6000 Tunzes on a controller in a 90. It is not in the direct path, but there is a decent amount of movement in the area.

dhnguyen- I did that last night and I couldn't see any. Granted it was only about 10 minutes after the lights went out. Maybe if I get up in the middle of the night I will come downstairs to check it out.

Thats what I have decided to do, do you think that staring at it will make the polyps come out any faster?!?!?! haha just kidding.

Thank you everyone for your input...

Chris

Do you know what the alk was of the tank it cam out of. If it was at 12 and now it is in your tank at 8, it might just been stressed. I sometimes get frags from people at natural sea paramenters (like alk @ 7) and sometimes it takes a few weeks to adjust to my 11 alk.

See it was at 8. And I even checked to day no change at all. The temp was a little higher at 79.1
