Why shouldn't I get a 300 gallon marineland deep dimensions tank?

I've been thinking about this for a long time now. For those with personal experience, are there reasons for me NOT to get one a 300 gallon deep dimensions tank, but rather go with a custom system?

The tank is great, The only issue I have run into so far( and my tank is not fully set up yet) is the corner overflows. There limiting if you want a quiet efficient surface skim of the large surface area of this tank.

IIRC, they do not give you any warranty on the tank unless you use their stand, this may or may not be an issue for you.

For me, Marineland does not have much of a tank presence in this country due to the monopoly of Central Pet (although I will admit it's been a couple years since I last checked). As a result there's a lot of issues in getting a tank (cost going up significantly as a result)

Lastly, they ain't cheap (again I note that it's been a while since I last looked) while they're not quite as expensive as a full on custom job, they're not that far off either. If the dimensions you actually want differ at all, I'd go custom. You're spending a lot of money as it is, you don't need to settle for a tank size that isn't ideal for you, you do that with used tanks not new ones.

thanks What's Central Pet?

Central Pet is simply the main (only?) distributor of aquarium goods in California (possibly larger area, but I live in California so that's the only thing I care about) ;)

As I said I haven't checked things out in a couple years or so, I'm happy with what I want, and I've had no further reason to continue to investigate. I did like the idea of a Marineland DD tank when they first came out (I'm sick of acrylic), however I couldn't even get a price on one for the longest time, and now I really only have Dr Foster & Smith to compare to for pricing.

Well that sucks just move to Texas, I paid $1600 for mine at the fish store and our wholesaler goes out of there way to make sure you are happy if something goes wrong.

In the Northeast area, a new Marineland 300DD standard starphire will cost $1,700 - $1,900. Used tank $1000 - $1,400.

I spent alot of time looking into the ml 300dd. Very nice system indeed for the price but chose to spend more to obtain
1. An 8 footer
2. Better overflow
3. Better stand without losing warranty( ml only Warranty tank if u use their stand)
4. Avoid crossbraces. Mine is rimless

Again for price its awesome tank.

wow your set up sounds amazing. Did you spend twice as much as for your custom job compared to the 300 DD?
