Why so many fish keeping posts?

Most people on this forum are not the average LFS customers. New hobbyists is the life blood of LFS. We no what to do and how to test water a new hobbyist looks to the kid at the LFS to help them. I have been keeping fish for 51 years an a 16 year kid will never have seen all the things I have seen. [emoji1]

Reefwiser I have also been keeping fish longer than that but the buyer has to beware at an LFS and should do some research on what he is buying before he gets there. It's not like buying bowling balls. Although I never actually bought a bowling ball.

Stop joking, you guys, let me get serious for a minute. I want to hear more about Paul's filter. Is it a DIY? Can you post s how to, please, like you did with your feeder.
I'm setting up a new tank, and I want to try this...

Morgan, which filter are you referring to? Most of my inventions were posted here somewhere which is the reason I am writing a book, so I can put everything in the same place. I am getting old and I want to put all this down before I get senile. The old methods are almost all gone now and if it were not for all the erroneous information on the net, some of that stuff would still be around and still be beneficial. Now everybody does everything the same which is a shame because there are just as many problems now as there were 30 years ago, maybe more because now everyone has an opinion and there is no filter as to what works and what does not. Rumors abound in this hobby and if I hear one more person "curing" ich with garlic, cleaner shrimp or by waving chicken bones over the tank, I think I will have a stroke. I just want to hear facts and not made up stuff that came about from some guy who started a tank last Tuesday about two in the afternoon and his purple tang is now cured because his cat did the Macarana in front of his tank while wearing a Speedo.

Your reverse undergravel filter I s the one I was asking about. Did you use an undergravel plate from a pet store? Or did you build your own using PVC?
I am very glad to hear you are writing a book. I will buy a copy, that's for sure.( Please have step by step explanations for pea brains like me. ) I agree there is too much misinformation out there, and many new fish keepers will be fooled by it. People still believe in garlic and powdered ginger is still fooling people too. Also there are more mystery drops for our reef tanks every year it seems like: Probiotic, organic, rare mineral, colloidal silver, trace elements, snake oil.
I've been watching your posts since I joined RC, and you and a couple others really impress me as being full of info. I've tried searching RC for your undergravel filter, but didn't find anything.
I'm moving next week. I'll already have the stuff to build your mandarin feeder and your black worm culture tank. I'll also start freezing my clams in the shell like you do. I usually scrape them out and mince and then freeze. It's very messy. Your way is smarter. Now I also want to build your reverse undergravel filter too. I was thinking I could get a Lee's undergravel plate and add a pump....
Also I ordered a couple books that Steve/Snorvich recommended that just came today.

Morgan I would like to attempt it also. I do believe he used a regular underground filter to begin with. Then he got creative. :deadhorse1: I am going to look for one when I get a new aquarium. In the mean time I will watch for Paul's answer.

And he uses gravel, not sand. Hope I got that right Paul.

I am sure it is on here someplace. I also wrote about it again yesterday but I don't remember where. For some reason this week people are interested in RUGFs. I don't know why as for 40 years people just laughed at them. I am going somewhere now and hope I get time later as I will be babysitting this weekend. It will be in the book with diagrams.

I am actually writing it in pencil on my monitor and later, a Supermodel comes over to type it on the computer.

You guys and yer super models  no super model is as pretty as a wrasse.

Ordered filter plates and pumps. Very excited about this experiment. And Paul, ya sound kind of frustrated/ irritated that people are getting interested after 40 years. We needed time to catch up to your brilliance. Give us a break! :bounce1: be happy that we are learning

You guys and yer super models no super model is as pretty as a wrasse.

I am not sure about that. I worked at a few Victoria Secret photo shoots and I got to tell you, there are some pretty nice looking Supermodels, some even better looking than a wrasse. As for the Old school stuff, I don't see the problem. As soon as they invented the computer, all the good ideas went out the window and we have silly rumors. At one time, my Ideas were the only ideas, And some of them were pretty good. But they all fell over because of technology. Of course now there are more problems than there were then. I wonder why
