Funny, the more I think about it, Maricopa is one of those places that makes me cringe. I think it has to do more with what is there than how far away it is. If I have to travel to Surprise from Chandler, at least I know there are a million things I can stop and do along the way. I am meeting someone at Aquatouch to save them a drive. It is pretty far out of my way, but I get something out of it - going to a store I don't get to visit often.
There is a valid point to the "familiarity". If I knew more about what I could also do/see in Maricopa I might be more inclined to go. I like multi-purpose trips when time is involved.

Well, technically it alternates between 65 and 55 mph, by yeah - it's pretty much 75+ mph the whole way or you get passed like you're standing still.

For anyone on the eastside, Maricopa isnt too bad at all... you guys have more freeways than us over here, so its all freeway... Maricopa road is a 75MPH drive till you get into the start of town(like 10 minutes off the I10), so it seems alot shorter than it really is IMO

I'm not sure what any of us could tell you about Maricopa that'd make you want to come here and visit somewhere else besides the several member's own houses (unless you enjoy a good casino or two). It's not like any of us moved here for it's happening shopping, tourism, or dining opportunities. Heck, to put it bluntly - we just got a WalMart last year (I say like it's something to be proud of).

When your grocery shopping is limited to convenience stores, the arrival of a Wal Mart (especially a Super) is a big step up.

Wal Mart underpricing 100-year-old Mom-n-Pop stores and driving them out of business = bad.
Wal Mart building the first decent retail/grocery outlet in an under-served community = not so bad.

Why thank you. I'm fond of the Ace Hardware in Laveen, mostly because it's very close to my house.

I think I've been out to the Town of Maricopa exactly one time, to buy something from a fellow FRAG member.

I live in Anthem (the outlet one, so up north) once I drop that bomb to a potential buyer, people change their interest pretty quickly and almost always back out, so I have had to become accustomed to meeting them in a location that is halfway or so between us, just to make a sale. Most deals I have done have been with people on the east side, for which I drive down to Desert Ridge and hopefully they actually show up. Gotta do what ya gotta do to make a sale!

I also live in Anthem. I guess thats why I still have all the live rock AND the six line that people keep saying they want and never come get.

What I think is funny - is I'm in Ahwatukee - so - if I take 48th st to I10 then to Anthem - I never leave the City of Phoenix proper - and thats about a 45 minute+ drive.

Well that's just silly. Seriously, free is free, beggars can't be choosers and all that stuff. If I am paying for it, I might pay a few more dollars to have you meet me half way, but if it is free, I come get it and accept it graciously just like my Grandma taught me to!

have sold frags on CL in the past
and having sold/purchased many things using CL - i dont expect much when someone says they will be coming over at this time... just tell them to give me a call when (if) they get close and that will be home from whatever to whenever time........... if they call good if not oh well.......

have had excellent results over the years using CL........ BUT!
this last time i sold a frag off CL a 'crackhead' appearing person (who was picking frags up for his friend) came in higher then a kite on something... staring around the house... twitching :fun5: and exhibiting 'strange' behavior... each time reaching into the frag tank (picked up quite a few frags actually more at one time then ever sold to any one individual) crack must have been selling for a good price at the time :lol: when i would turn around the guys eyes were all around the house...

whatever the guy 'might' have been think'n
didnt matter..... that was the last time i have ever brought anyone into the house when selling something off CL... most people when buying frags dont want to meet at the mall to pick it up either... MOST PEOPLE (understandably) want to see the tank its coming from see if there are any pests etc (what i would want to do before spending any serious money on a frag) and want to see the 'system' etc

one might have to weigh out
the inconvenience/possible risk of inviting total strangers into ones house VS whatever CHUMP-CHANGE they might make selling frags... if it were just me (like 'back-n-the-day' :beachbum probably could care (less) about any weirdos coming over......... but now having a wife/family/kids... it becomes more of an 'inconvenience'/risk then its worth.....

on that note
just recently was on the news someone(s?) were murdered when they tried selling a diamond ring off CL... whoever the potential buyers were came over to take a look and well walked off w/ the diamond i believe............ thats not the first time 'weird' stuff has happened off CL either..... and having been around this forum for awhile - have heard of 'strange' things going on around here too!

On that note, I remember purchasing a sun coral frag from CL. After talking with the lady on the phone I went to her residence to pick it up. She answered the door and showed me in, while walking back to where the tank was I met what I believe was her husband, he had a .45 on his hip.
nuff said, no bad CL business happening there. She was the reef hobbyist and... "he liked hunting".
