Why??

I recently recieved a bunch of new zoas and I put them in a qt tank for 2 days. That tank has 18 watt pc over 2.5 gallon. 4 days ago I moved the zoas in a 10 gallon with 70 watt MH. The zoas are 12-18 inches away from the light. I have a hot filter and had a powerhead on as well. I turned off the powerhead incase it was too much flow. My question is: why wont the zoas open?

Parameters are all fine.

some times they can take time opening, i have some that took more then a week to relax enough to open even then it seem like only one open and the days to follow that was another one then another till one day they all were open.

so cal, were they shipped or gotten from someone locally? I have noticed the longer they are in transit the longer to open. Just my experience, may be different for you though.....

got zoanthids?

I highly doubt that your params are fine if your running a HOT filter. Unless your cleaning it daily, it is going to be releasing nutrients back into your tank. I would look into removing this and putting on a skimmer. I also would say you do not have too much flow... if anything, not enough.. What size powerhead(s)? Whats the flow on the HOT?

On another note- 4 days is not a long time.. Start to worry when they havent opened for 10+ days, or show signs of disease or infection.

I think I may have found the problem. I was looking at the tank and couldnt figure out why the zoas were not opening. I looked at the temperature and it was 85 degrees. It was probably somewhere between 82-85 the whole time. Is this the reason they are not opening?

proabably, but during the holidays i was basically just feeding and go (to busy to get my hands wet,we had company) and my powerheads broke and was basically sitting there on and just heating the tank, well the temp got up to 85 90 degrees and everything just melted. but i did not lose not one zoa. these things are way hardier than some people give credit. low tides they may be out of the water for hours, when they get shipped they are shipped just damp kinda like an anenome.
