Wil this work as a Sulfur DeNITRIFIER?

I use the Midwest aquatics unit - awesome, just awesome - truly a plug -n-play unit. You don't feed it, just get it started and that's it! I really could not be more happy with the unit - I have never been able to get nitrates below 10, and now 0... uses an ehiem 1048 for recirc and is flawless. takes about 2 - 3 weeks to build a good culture of bacteria, and you just test a few times, and set it, and forget it! well worth the investment~ JMO though!

Thanks! I heard nothing but positive reviews on the Midwest unit. Trying to find one to purchase has been challenging though. I'm continuing my search..lol!

I looked into one several months ago. Unlike the sulfer denitrifiers, the Aquaripure needs to be dosed on a weekly basis as I recall. I think you dose with sugar or vodka which in my opinion defeats the purpose of a denitrifier reactor. From what I have read, they do work but I personally would go the Sulfer route as I dont want to dose my system like that as I am lazy and prefer the set it and forget method.

I had heard that they were backordered.. I got mine through premium aquatics - give them a try...
You might look into the Korallin unit as well - very close clone, if not the exact same!

I got the Deltec NPF 509 model it is not hooked up yet, problem with this unit you need at least one dosing pump, three if you want to go fully automatic plus a controller, so it gets really expensive fast. I guess one of the tricks is getting the in flow correct, they stated that I could use a aqua lifter but that is probably too loud.

Korallin BioDenitrator S-1502 w/ Eheim 1048 Pump. I have 2 units and they are working great! Zero Nitrates in both tanks. Plus it adds Calcium to the water keeping levels at optimum.

There is a local club member that is doing a test on the bio pellets right now, he has not posted in a while - I'll check in with him and let you know...
I can't stress enough on just how good the midwest aquatics / Korallin units are though! gravity fed, no fuss! again, JMHO...

Thanks again for the help! I'm going to continue my search for a Midwest unit...

Do you have to tune your MIdwest Unit every now and then? Also, I read something about a egg smell from these DEntrifying units if you don't tune them right..??Idk..loL!

You have to adjust it till you get a 0 rating and then your done. People get a egg smell when they run too little water through and there are not enough nitrates for the bacteria to consume. Then, the bacteria dies, and is what causes the egg smell. Not the sulfur media itself.

Nice! That's a beast!! I will consider that if my dual BRS reactor does not do the job. ;)

Thanks for the idea! :)

If you cant find the Midwest unit, This is the one I built...Its an easy DIY

FWIW - The only change I have made is to replace the clear air-line tubing with the black air-line tubing to cut out algae growth restricting the flow.

Its been running for going on a year...no feeding, no media replacement/addition...no measurable nitrates.
