Added a RBTA to our display about a week ago, since being added it has done great, our percs love it, it's small, about 5" diameter. I came in from the office today and the RBTA has shrunk up to almost nothing, I thought, strange, it doesn't usually do that when the lights are on. Upon closer inspection I see something yellow protruding from it's mouth, a quick look around the tank, no Hippo tang! He was 6". I would have never though an anemone that size could take down a fish that size. Wow, now I just have to explain to my 5 year old why her favorite fish is no longer in the tank.

Generally, BTAs do not "take down" healthy fish. Even a weak fish will generally have the strentgh to break away from the grip of a BTA (the sting might well kill a weakened fish, but the fish wouldn't remain in the anemone). If your BTA ate your 6" hippo tang, I'm betting it was dead, or nearly so, when it was snagged by the BTA.

FWIW,
Kevin

Didn't look dead or anywhere near dead when I left the house this morning. He ate like a horse and exhibited his normal behavior.
