Will a blue tang and purple tang mix in the same tank?

I currently have a 120 gallon display tank and have had a 2 inch blue tang for about 3 months. I want to add a purple tang. Had anybody had any experiences with these 2 living together
Thanks Dimitri

I have a couple of tanks that have this pairing without issue. I seldom get into the tank size issue, because many of the oldest tangs are not in "proper" sized tanks, but in this case you will have to kee an eye on aggression. The purples in all of my tanks take a pretty good sized territory- usually around 3 feet in a crowded tank. They will swim the whole tank and be peaceful- but in their sector they will be moody. In a 4 foot tank, you can see how this might be an issue. I would not be opposed to trying it- but do not force it to work. It will be a matter of individual personality.

I assumed you were speaking of the blue hep tang- I would not keep an atlantic blue with a purple.

yes they would provided you have a 2000 gallon tank. even then some here may suggest larger.

Disagree although I would not suggest the combo in a 120.

I have both in a 280g, as well as a naso with no issues at all. I added the naso early, the blue well after, and then the purple which was a bit smaller than both. The blue and naso are best of friends with the blue following the naso around like a puppy. The purple has had no issues with the other 2 after being the last tang added.

i don't see why you would have issues they are not from the same genus so they should not show too much aggression towards each other, the issue is that some people do not provide their tang with the proper diet, if they are fed well and fed A LOT they should not be overly aggressive. also aquascaping plays a role, if your 120 is full of rocks and there is not much swimming space then some aggression may occur. usually territorial tangs will only show aggression towards competing fish (in other words fish that are of the same genus, or fish that are of the same size)
