We redid our aquascaping today and when I placed the maxima (foot attached to a rock) it has ended up hanging upside down. Its foot is firmly attached, so I do not want to pull it off of the rock. Will the clam reposition itself toward the light?
If the clam is hanging upside down you need to move it. Do not pull it off of the rock. You will probably rip the byssal gland out and doing so will probably kill it. You need to take a sharp knife or razorblade and carefuslly cut the byssal threads as far away from the clam and closest to the rock as possible. The threads are like our fingernails the clam won't feel you cutting them. Once the clam is safely removed from the rock you can place it where you wish in your tank.
