Will all Clownfish Bond To Anemones?

I have a clownfish just a regular nemo type I guess you guys call them False perc? Anyways. I was going to get a small anemone today. Will they automatically bond? And how do I place the anemone in the tank? Will it sting me?

Anemones are difficult to keep. Clown fish do not need to have an anemone in captivity. Whether a A. ocellaris (false perc) will accept an anemone as host depends on whic species of anemone you get. Often in aquarium, they often accept host anemones that are not accepted in the wild.
Unless you know how to keep and anemone alive, do not get one. It will most likely be a waste of anemone life and lost of money on your part. Read ask questions, do research and if you can keep your tank stable, not kill fish, and have adequate light for the anemone species, then get one. Even then, you need to start out with species that are easier to keep first.

Well Entacmaea Quadricolor(bubble tip anemone)is just about the most simple anemone to keep along with the Stichondaclya Haddoni(Carpet Anemone).

Its a cruel irony that the more affordable clowns are native to the most difficult nems to keep. If you must try a nem, start with entamacea quadricolor, but do all your research. They present lots of problems that should be considered in advance. There is also no guarantee occelaris will go in BTA. Mine never have.

While haddoni may be the next "easiest" nem, imo its a world of diffference between a BTA and a haddoni. Haddoni's are very difficult, andpose their own problems in mixed reefs. When buying a nem from the ocean, keep in mind that it could very well have been born around the time of the civil war, and yet almost all (non-BTA) nem die in the first 6 months when in captivity. Don't get me wrong, it can be done, but there is a reason they are labeled as "expert-only" by most stores.

I will do alot of research. I didnt know they were that hard to keep. What type of problems would they cause? My LFS Has alot of small carpet and bubble tip nems. they are about 2" in diameter... oh, and will my Niger and Huma triggerfish bother them at all?

dont forget to keep away from bleached anemones. what kind of lighting do you have and how big is your tank?

I have the dual 36" compact flourecents actinic blue and the bright one (not sure). It is a 75 gal w/ 90lbs of live rock...

36 inch PCs are 96 watts each.


Over a 75 that, IMO, won't be enough light, not even for a BTA.

Niger and Huma triggers will make short work of any clown fish that you may have. Anemone should be keep in reef tank with very bright light. With the nutrient the two trigger put out, your tank will be overrun with algae if you have bright light. These trigger are suitable for Fish only tank and not recommended for a small reef tank. It is best to stick with fish only tank with or without live rock. I highly recommend that you do not put anemone or clown fish in that tank.

oh ok. I wont put an anemone in the tank. geez. lol . But the clown is already been in, and seems to be doing just fine... I will keep it a FOWLR. Any suggestions on a really cool fish to go with the Triggers. like a porcupine puffer or lionfish?

What kind of clowns do you have? Must be pretty big, or else the trigger must be tiny. Lion fish is a no-no with small fish. A lion will eat fish more than 1/2 their length.

seems like really expensive fish food to me... how long have you had this tank? Your sig shows you registered less than two months ago I was just wondering b/c you already have 2 triggers in a tank thats right on the edge for them.... it sounds like you need to be looking at FOWLR aggressive tank setup...
