I just got a 100 gallon tank that I am upgrading to and the tank came with two 24'' HQI 150 watt coralife metal halide lights with power compacts. The tank is 60'' L x 18.5'' W x 23'' H. I am wondering if I put 2 14k Phoenix bulbs in and put 4 65W Dual 420nm/460nm Blue Power Compact Bulbs in would I have enough light to be able to grow SPS corals and have LPS on the sand bed??

With some creative placement I think you could make it work. The 150s seem a little on the low side but if you kept the sps in the top half and made sure the Lps didn't get shaded too much you may be fine.

How deep is your sand bed going to be?

A pair of 150's will work, but you will not get good coverage over the whole tank. If you place the corals under the bulbs it will be fine, this is where creative aquascaping comes into play. At only 23" tall the 150's have enough power to do the job, the Phoenix bulb will do well on that tank. The Coralife fixture isn't the greatest but will do the job.

Here is a 150 gallon, 28" tall tank lit with 150's, and obviously it it shows that 150 are more than adequate. It is lit with 3-150 watt bulbs and the sps and clam on the bottom of the tank look great.

And where it was a year before...this is pretty darn good growth and color in a year under 150's and a tall tank.

Nice!! It will defiantly take me a while to get a really nice aquascape hahaha. What size powerheads do you have on your tank? I was going to get 4 Hydor Koralia Evolution 1150gph.
