Will it still survive? (could this morning get any worse)

breutus

Don't ask me, I'm wrong.
well I went to bed last night keeping a close eye on my green bubble tip it started wandering all around last night for no apparent reason it does this ocassonally but never goes far. i moved all the pumps that were near it off the glass (thinking he wouldn't be able to get to them if they werent on the glass). I woke up this morning and when i came downstairs, there he was stuck in the powerhead all twisted and disfigured.. little peices of him floating all around the tank.

First of all is there anything i need to worry about with it killing things in the tank(though i didn't think so with BTA's). Second I am attaching some pictures does anyone think there is a chance he'll survive or should I just get him out of the tank.
Thanks everyone I guess that teaches me for not having something more definitive around the intake...

one nuked my tank killed eavery thing but the whole thing had been blended and it was 6" plus . I would do a large water change at least 50% and start running heavy carbon

i'm doing roughly a fifty percent water change now but i am still trying to figure out if i need to take him out of there. also there is another piece only about an inche long and wide that got ripped off him that has crawled down the glass and on to a rock i wondered if that should come out...

maby he just got fraged,i dont know .mine got compleatly shreaded. if it is just in two peices may not be much of a problem if your water was milky looking I would be conserned

There's no toxins related to the bubble tip but when one gets shredded, a bacterial explosion happens. They eat up all of the tissue but their respiration not only drives down Dissolved Oxygen and increases CO2. As a result, the pH drops also. Ammonia is also increased which is the reason for the waterchange.

Do a water change and try to get as much of the floating tissue out as possible. Additionally, if you have a freshwater air pump, start pumping air into the water for the next day or so.

If it's moving on it's own, I completely agree with Silvers.

(The milky water he's talking about is the bacterial explosion I was speaking of).

well i think i have gotten MOST of the tissue out and surprisingly there is no milky solution the water seems clear I'll keep an eye on my water paramters though.

luckly he wasn't that big (only about 4 or 5 inches fully spread) and lucky that the powerhead that he got into was the weakest one in the tank it could have been alot worse if he would have completly went through it instead of just one side of him!!!

i'll keep everyone posted but if any one has anymore thoughts let me know.

what do you think I should do about all the little pieces that almost seem to have attached to the rock that have like one small tentecale but seem to be attached

Use a turkey baster and squirt a jet of water at it to see if it's really attached. If it is, get a business license and start looking for a larger tank.

LOL, no doubt,

I ended up taking everything out except three of the larger pieces that are definitly attached ones about an inch or so and the other two are about half an inch apiece well see what happens the main peice is starting to look alittle better though i believe where he is cut down the side hes gonna split.

breutus, Told ya he was a bad boy. That's why I traded him. He just could not stay still. I think he's an ADHD anemone. :eek1: Anemone vs.Powerhead, powerhead usually wins. I hope he makes it.

Breutus - if you can get him to eat, go for it. You'll probably need to directly feed him for a while as he heals. Try small foods like mysis or even flake. This can go a long way toward speeding recovery.

If he's not sticky, don't push the issue. Just try again tomorrow and make sure you don't leave his leftovers in the tank. ;)

stlouphil: you definitly were not kidding he has always been a mover from day one. but he has never gone as far as he did last night. I kinda wish I would have taken a picture before I got him out of it, it was the craziest thing I have ever seen.

but it's doing pretty well right now. It has been all over that side of the tank since the accident, kinda moving in two pieces (really looks like he'll split tonight). And one of the tears of tissues has continued to crawl all over the place and the top of it has flared out alot so it may even grow into something who knows. I did not feed him tonight but I will in the morning. Its the normal day for there feeding.

It seems as though he has been moving to try and stay out of the light though which seemed odd to me but i guess it could be more of a protective instinct to go into hiding.

They hide away from the light after splitting. I don't know why, but they do. If you can provide him w/ a shady spot that will still give you easy access, that might be a good idea. The anemone will get its hidey hole and you'll still be able to feed it. A terra cotta flower pot is a cheap and easy way to do this.
