Will my acro make it?

Eel Freak

Fimbriated Moray
Hi!

I got back from vacation last week after being gone for 6 days and during that time parameters slipped. Phosphate hit 2.0, Nitrates were at 20, and alkalinity was down at 6.5ish.

I've got that corrected now:
pH - 8.2
Alk - 9dKh
NH3 - 0
NO2 - 0
NO3 - 0
Phosphate - <1ppm and dropping (I fed heavy, so it's difficult to drop...)
Temp - 77-80 all day
Calcium - ~460ppm (No Mag test yet, sorry)
Salinity - 35ppt

Lots of flow (two MP40's w/ Iwaki MD-70RLT return) and 6 month old Elos SpectraChrome 20K lamps and a Radium 20K lamp on a 11hr photoperiod.

My question is this: What are the odds that my big Aussie Table Acro is going to come back? The pic makes it look really really hideous and that the whole right side is bleached, but that is inaccurate. Most tips are bleached back about .25" except for where it is close to the rock. It has not gotten worse since I got my water under control. Where it isn't bleached, it has good polyp extension. All thoughts are appreciated, thanks!

Awesome. That's what I was hoping to hear... I'll make sure everything stays where it is. If anything does change, it'll be an increase in DO when I bring my 125g refugium online.

Any idea how long it may take to heal?

I had this recently happen to me when I went on vaca and once I did a WC everything cleared up. My alk was at 5 so trust me I know how you feel but once I stabilized back to it's previous parameters I had a growth explosion lol

DO ? What's this brain fart sorry.

Dissolved Oxygen. ;)

Cool. That's good to hear also! Glad you got your tank back where it should be!

Nothing else was affected over vacation, only the table Acro and an Aussie Stag which I came home to dead. I had gotten it shortly before I left and it looked like it had a little tissue damage from shipping... I attribute the rapid death to that. Other than that, all clams, Montis, etc. were fine.

I'm a little confused with your phosphates. Is your phosphate actually 2 ppm??? That seems extremely high to me. This is the only part confusing me. My corals don't grow when phosphate is over 0.06, so I mean 2 ppm would certainly not be helping the overall cause.

But the alk swing is probably your main culprit. That could cause some harm in a hurry if it dropped too low, that's for sure.

When I got home from vacation I ran my tests and on that first day back it read 2.0ppm. Granted these are API kits, I did check also at my LFS to see since I thought that was crazily high. It also read 2.0. I've gotten it down since then and I'm hoping the addition of the fuge today will bring it to 0.

I am also suspecting that the bulk of it was due to the alk swing, and that the phosphates definitely aren't helping....

That's what I'm thinking too... Alk is holding steady at 9dKH since I've gotten back and begun correcting issues.

The only interesting thing to this is that nothing at all happened to my ORA Purple Nana. If anything, it has looked better than ever through all this. Is that because it's from ORA and already acclimated to the changing life of an aquarium?
