Will PVC glue be safe to use on this?

I have this hose that will be slipped into the bulkhead of my overflow that will lead to my filter sock in my sump. The ends of the hose isn't as hard as regular piping. Will PVC glue be safe to use on this? Also, I'm able to slip this into the bulkhead with a pretty tight pressure fit. Would this be a good enough seal without using any glue?

Should I have a Union put in between the overflow bulkhead and the flex pipe in case I have to remove the flex pipe for servicing?

i used pvc glue no problems.. just make sure it cures before adding water...

i would not leave the hose to sit without glue.. if it falls off you will be very sorry

that won't glue to the inside of a bulkhead... you have to have a hard pvc first, then attach it to that flex tube.

use spa flex pvc, the ribbed tube you have will cause unnecessary backpressure in addition to being quite thin and prone to cracking.

I think those fit easily into a 1' socket bulkhead.

I had the hose lying around in the garage and had it in a bulkhead....Not 100% sure it was a 1 inch one though....maybe a 1.5

WilaFur,

The ID of the tube isn't ribbed and the thickness seems to be a lot more than the onces I've seen at LFS's. I actually took what you mentioned into consideration before I purchased this. Thanks for mentioning it.

Yinger,
I'm a little confused as to why it will not glue directly into the bulkhead since the bulkhead is PVC? So would an adapter like THIS be suitable? I can basically screw that onto the OD of the bulkhead with some teflon tape and slip and glue the flex tube onto that? Hmm that actually seems to work out better as I can remove the tube bu just unscrewing the adapter.

i remembered when i had my 40 i tried to glue the spa flex to the bulkhead and it wouldn't glue at all. I second what Wilafur said and get the flex pvc... also the spa flex creates a gurgling sound as well.

Can I get the Flex PVC at HD or Lowes? How much does it cost approximately? I only need 4ft of it @ 1".

Anyone in or near the Cerritos area that's willing to sell some of theres? Heh.

I believe there are special glues for gluing PVC plastic to non-PVC plastic. These glues are used when gluing PVC and ABS plastics.

Stuff like that.

If it's a slip bulkhead I'd glue a piece of PVC into the bulkhead and then slip the flex OVER the PVC. It's a tight fit and if you don't sand down the OD of the PVC it will be real hard to get it over. You can heat up the flex end but the will be putting a lot of stress on the piece and in time it will crack.

PVC glue melts the PVC so when it dries the joint becomes one piece. That wont work with two different types of plastic.

Oh, calling it "flexible" PCV is a stretch. I call it "slightly bendable" PVC and you better want it bent the way it's already bent.

Ah ok, I didn't know the PVC glue actually melts the PVC some what. So if I were to get a 1" coupler and slip a 1.25" ID on top of that would I still have to glue it? I actually have another flex tube that has 1.25" ID ends to them. If I have to use glue/cement, which glue/cement do I use to bond PVC to other plastics?
