Want to get these 2 from Atlantis Aquarium for $180, what do you guys think? my main concern is lfo course how well will they hold their color, please share your experience as type of light and water flow for not losing the color.

The blue hoke will look great under 20K.

The Humulis may turn more green but should keep the purple tips.

depends on how much photoshopping was done to the pics. if none then they should hold color well.

IMO you should open it up in photoshop and look for the obvious before you just blanket throw it out there that vendors (or this vendor) does that. I've had nothing but great luck with atlantis being very reputable. Sorry for my rant I just get sick of always hearing the photoshop stuff when a pic hasn;t been.

I would find out what lighting they have them under and for how long. Also remember that it is not always a lighting issue. It is very likely that is is a combination of their lighting and water quality.

Get as much info from them as you can and try to duplicate it to get the results that you are looking for.

Thanks guys,
Didn't thought about the photoshop issue, no wonder Atlantis stuff don't seem the same as they appear in person. A lot of times, I couldn't find the exact same coral as it was posted on their site, because I thought they lost their color due to stress during shipping and acclimation.
However, the 2 I saw appear to hold the true color because I have gotten many blue acro only morphed to purple after being in my tank for few weeks.
The next question is how high should I place the blue hoke in my tank.

Just because the color of the coral doesn't look exactly like the photo does not mean the vendor is photoshopping.

They lose a little color due to the stress of shipping and your lights may not be the exact combination of lights they are using which would also cause the color to look different.

Not to mention actual camera setings. like white balance. ATlantis is not PS'ing their photos, everything looks very similiar in person :)

wow! i never said they were shopping the pics , i was just saying a blanket statement, but hey if the shoe fits....

but yes flow and water quality can determine if you are gonna gain or loose the color

Another "Not to mention" is that almost all vendors take their pictures from the top down, not sideways through the glass (as most everyone views the corals, with some exceptions, of course). The viewing angle makes a huge difference in color.

And to answer Tim about "if the shoe fits", Unless you actually know of any specifics and have proof to back it up, please don't go around arbitrarily slandering an RC Sponsor, it speaks badly for the RC community in general. Thanks :)

man in my last post i was trying to state that i am not targeting any company or slandering anyone. als the first pic posted doesnt look photoshopped at all, since background colors arent washed or super saturated.

the , if the shoe fits... statement was targeted at the ppl that are doing the ps'ing of which i have no idea who is , but those do it know

someone who knows what they are doing could photoshop a pic so well that you couldn't tell if you tried. That being said the order I received from atlantis was EXACTLY what was on their site. I was quite pleased with my purchase.

Regardless of photoshopping, newly imported corals usually have more vibrant colors than those wilds/aquacultureds that have been in captivity for a few weeks. So, while the corals may look like that chances are that they will change color even kept in the same conditions. However, if those pieces have been in captivity for a while then they are more likely to keep the color, but anytime a coral moves from one environment to another a color change is more likely than not.

With that being said I personally wouldn't pay $180 for those two corals. The second one is nice and I'd consider purchasing if it was a good price. If I had a 180 to spend I’d probably see what some reputable members here have as far as frag packs and what other online vendors have and go from there. I’d rather have several frags than limiting myself to two corals. If the frags have been in captivity for a while chances are they may grow a good bit faster than the wilds. The only time I really go for wilds is when they are for a good price and something that’s really nice and out of the ordinary.

However, if those two pieces are something that you like and have been looking for then by all means go for it regardless of what I or anyone else thinks.

Good luck,
