Will this light be OK for a reef?

uploadfromtaptalk1437538624682.jpg I was thinking some softies and lps, maybe sps I don't know yet. My tank is a 30 gallon bowfront 30" long 19"deep. Would I have to take everything off the top of the aquarium and hang the light over the top? If so how much over the top? Thank you!

I believe that light is a little less than 16" long so maybe it won't provide full coverage. These Chinese LEDs have been proven to be good enough for all corals, SPS include.

Btw, this could've been asked in your other thread.

Do you think it would be OK for my 30 gallon, can I make it fit, how can I make it fit?

If you raise it about 12" to 18" off the water it should cover your 30" long tank OK, not great, but good enough. The ends may be a bit dim. Removing the lenses off the end couple of rows of leds at each end will help spread the light a little, but probably not worth the effort. Just don't put light loving corals at the ends of the tank.

I've used other Chinese lights that are just like these and they work just fine. In fact I just bought 2 of them used for $40 each to put over my refugiums.

Personally, I would buy the 24" fixture. A 16 inch fixture is only going to cover half your tank. You will have a bright center and shady sides. LEDS spotlight by their design. They don't spread the light as well like a metal halide. Just search the net for pictures of tanks and you'll find plenty examples of what I'm talking about. It looks terrible, IMO.

What about something like this? uploadfromtaptalk1437581380929.jpguploadfromtaptalk1437581392756.jpg

look at the ocean revive fixtures I run 2 of the arctic so26s on my 75g you might be able to get away with one on a 30 they are awesom leds and have provided amazing color and growth with all my sps.

The Mara aqua is a good buy for the money, iv got 2 on my 90 with great result. As previously mentioned get the 24" mars aqua. Its the same fixture just longer

The light you want is made by Evergrow in China. Marsaqua, ocean revive, Reefbreeders or anyone else selling these units are buying from them and putting their logo on it. However some distributors upgrade the LEDs, lenses, and provide warranty support.

I can tell you right now you are not going to find a light capable of growing sps, specifically acros, for $50. Furthermore, just because someone labels it "reef capable" or "SPS and LPS" unfortunately does not mean it will work. Just bad companies trying to separate you from your money. Do your research on anything you intend on buying.

Finally, just look at how few LEDs are actually on that fixture and the amount of power it consumes. I doubt that light can grow much of anything except algae.

OK so would this be more like the light I'm looking for? uploadfromtaptalk1437589445494.jpg

any 2w+ lights will grow sps in a 30g tank.
you may want the dead(er) spots on the sides if you get corals that need less light (alveopora)

my .02

You're welcome.
OK so I went to pet Co and I looked at these led light fixtures, are they good for what I want? Is the cheaper one still good or will I have to get the more expensive one? Money is sort of the issue but if I have to I will get the more higher one.
