Will this sump design work?

If you set-up baffles, like above, you will stop most, if not all, microbubbles from entering the DT from your skimmer. As far as I know, that's about the only benefit. Other than seperating the macroalgae from entering other compartments.

My set up is totally different. Skimmer is in its own tank seperate from the sump wich mantains a consistant water level. May be I should take a pic and post it to see what people think?

Baffles serve a couple purposes.

1 - They keep micro-bubbles from making it into the return pump area. This is not to say that they are needed, there's plenty of people who run their sumps without baffles.

2 - Maintain specific water depths in seperate chambers. If you look at the image I made on the first page, you see that the "Fuge" baffle is higher than the rest. The water level in the fuge area will be higher. Usually when you build a sump (I do anyways) that is going to have baffles, you figure the baffle height for the skimmer chamber based on the depth of water that the skimmer needs to operate.

Lots of people do that also. You can run all seperate tanks for each item if you wanted, just have to plumb them all together

One day, when I get my 135g together, I'd like to do something like I mentioned, an have my fuge outside of the stand on another stand. They are loaded with life and it's interesting to see everyone hard at work in there.
