Will this work to jump start bacteria

Ok, total noob here, but I've read, read and read before getting into the hobby. That's how I approach things.

So I started a tank a couple weeks ago. 65 gallon I bought from someone who moved and didn't want to restart the tank. Sand left in the tank. I had to buy rock from someone else who broke down a tank.

I used Fluval cycle starter, but everything I've read is that stuff is junk.

Went to the LFS today and they helped me out. Instead of the junk bacteria starters, they sold me a container of Seachem bio media that had been in their system and full of bacteria. They took the rocks that came in the canister out, put the ones from their system in and added the new ones to their system.

Guy said this would instantly add good bacteria to my tank, but to be safe, wait a couple weeks.

I really appreciated the help. It cost me $8. Anything I need to be concerned about with this advice?

Imo, the guys told you good ,live bacteria for $8. Sounds like a good deal to me

This will make the cycle to be completed lot quicker. Please check ammonia and nitrite regularly. Once you get nitrite reading, start checking for nitrates as well.

Within next 2 weeks cycle should get completed. Keep adding ammonia in the system to keep steady level about 2-3 ppm. Are you using live rocks for cycle?

I have rock, but it wasn't live rock when I bought it. It came from a tank that had been broken down for several months

Takes rock 8-12 weeks to really liven up in a robust way: it may cycle short of 4 weeks but treat it nicely, and keep the bioload real low. 4 weeks of cleanup crew only can set a tank up well, while first fish is in qt.

The only drawback will be importing bad stuff with the seeded rocks, other than that its totally works fine. Ich, velvet and other diseases if it does exist in your lfs system.
