In my 36 gallon (3') tank I already have a male randalls goby. I would like to get a female and have a pair. I do not want any pistol shrimp. Do you think that if I added a female randalls goby into the tank they would pair up?

Gobies are among the easiest fish to pair as they can change sex both ways to whatever is needed.

Why don't you want a pistol shrimp? I
have 4 randalli shrimp in my 25 gallon cube and they don't do any damage or massive gravel movements.

Tiger shrimp are a different story...

They might. Or they could fight. I would try and introduce all of them into a qt together and see if they pair up, then add to the display.

Hmm. I already have the one randalls goby in the DT. I will go on the safe side, because I have not had luck with pairing before. I will definetly get a randalls pistol shrimp, though.

Sorry to derail but I didn't know randalls could be kept more than one to a tank. Do they wind up together? Do they make separate burrows? My randall's ditched its yellow watchman for a yasha as soon as the yasha was introduced. I'm curious about having multiple shrimp in one tank.

That's how it should be. I've even seen pictures of different gobies sharing one burrow with a shrimp.

I would just make sure the new goby is either bigger or smaller than the one you already have. Bigger may be preferable.

Separate burrows. My high fin goby pair lives with my randalli shrimp pair.
The other two randalli shrimp males have their burrows in different corners.

Randalli shrimp prefer smaller gobies to live with. The larger gobies are better paired with the larger tiger shrimp. The tigers are also much easier to sex.
