Gflat:
Just have to laugh out loud. I swear this is a true story!
I have a friend who lives in a rural farm area outside of Cincinnati; after buying his home he installed a 300 Gallon Reef that had 5 400 watt MH's plus VHO's.
One day he came home from work and his wife told him a helicopter was hovering (very low) over their house for quite a while; he said it was probably just a student pilot practicing hovering. He (like me) flys fixed wing aircraft, and knows practice happens where and when it can; away from overly populated areas.
That night as they were watching TV in their living room, when their front door was (literally) knocked in, and 5 police officers (3 local and 2 state) burst in telling them they were under arrest, and demanded to know where the POT growing room was.
Jim (my friend; not a small person, first cleaned himself up, then...), stood up, walked over to the officers and said: "If you look around the corner from the door you just bought you will find a 300 gallon reef tank.
The local officers (looking quite stupid, and glaring at the state boy's), looked around the corner, saw the tank and spent 2 hours doing a temporary fix to the door, and looking at the tank (as well as having the gall to ask him questions about the little animals they saw). He said the state boy's left immediatly!
A few weeks later the local police chief actually called him; apologized yet again, asked if the new door was sufficient, them asked if he could bring his grand children over to see the tank!
Jim, found so much humor in this question, that once he got through laughing, said yes. The chief told him not to fix dinner it would be provided (Jim still wonders if local taxes paid for it). The chief showed up with his wife and the grand children and spent 3 hours socializing and eating KFC!
Jim say's he has only had problem with the police in his town, which is known as a "Speed Trap".
Months later, Jim was pulled over for speeding, he gave the local officer his licence. The officer ran the licence, came back to the car and said "You're the guy with the fish tank aren't you, Jim said actually it's a reef tank...but yes. Jim asked how he knew this, and the officer told him "we all know about you, the chief made it very clear to us ". The officer said he was sorry to bother him, and now that he knew his car he would never bother him again.
Jim said when he was pulled over he knew he was doing 15 MPH over the limit.
Ah; the intelligence of some people, and the assumptions that will be made over something as benign (or hot) as light.
