Winter is coming...thinking projects...

...and I've been thinking I need to put together a website.

I used to have a half-way decent webpage back in college. At least I thought it was decent considering I never had any lessons on how to put one together. Of course, I also lived in a house with a bunch of CPS majors so that helped :D

Now that the missus and I have "officially" begun a very on-the-side "business" of photography I figure I should have a website to display samples of my work for prospective clients and such. So my question has two parts:

First, what programs are folks using these days to put together websites? I really can't raw code HTML so I need some type of program to help out. I used to use FrontPage but lost that copy a long time ago. What's good/easy to use but will allow me a wide range of options in building a page.

Second, where does one host a website? Recommendations for solid services that don't go down often but are either reasonable and/or free? I've thought about purchasing my own domain name but have not looked into it just yet. After all, I need the web site link to look somewhat professional. I'm going to be opening up a new e-mail account for this as well but I've got that in hand already.

Thoughts? Recommendations? Other angles?

I use dreamweaver to do all my websites. you can also use adobe golive, that's more of a visual type html editor that is very powerful. as far as web serving i do my own through comcast...shhhh don't tell them. but i pay for my domain name and forwarding through namesecure. good luck

I use Frontpage because it's all pointing and clicking and that's about as much as I know how to do :p

Thanks everyone.

Yeah, Frontpage was my program of choice back then. I should hunt around for a copy of it here soon. But then again, if I get a high enough package on 1and1.com they will give me a bunch of free software to create and manage the site. Hmm...

I believe Frontpage is included with Office now- you might already have it on your computer.

I stay away from frontpage it has to many issues imho, now this is just my opinion I've seen some people do some decent sites. Adobe Go Live is a lot easier and more robust imho once again and easier to use, and the plus side if you don't have the full office suite its about $70 cheaper then frontpage and much less expensive then dreamweaver. Once again this is just my opinion. as far as hosting goes I won't touch that subject but I don't use 1and1 myself

Well, I have Frontpage here at work but not at home. To give everything a fair shake I'm gonna check out Go Live too. Dreamweaver, well, that's a bit far out of my league.

So far it seems that 1and1.com is the best (and cheapest) option for webhosting.
