Wireless or Hardwired?

I want to hook my profilux up to my home network to gain access to the remote programming and monitoring options. I have an Airport Extreme not being used that I could hook up in bridge mode, but it would also be easy for me to run cat5 cable from the fish room to my office where our main 2Wire router is located. Wouldn't the latter be the better way to go? What do you think?

In that situation I wouldn't even consider wireless. Nick is 100% spot on (As usual).

Also make sure you are familiar with and have the ability to connect to your ProfiLux hardwired directly from your computer. That's how I do all firmware updates and that's the only way to "FLASH" the firmware should an update get corrupted.

The only reason I mention this is that you'll want to have the components in hand to do this before you NEED them. Every time I break something it's Sunday evening when no one is open to buy the supplies I need. Plan ahead and odds are you'll never need to use that option.

Thanks! I'll probably just go this route. I can even get the cat5 cable and connectors for free!

Al, as you can see in the NA support forum, it was a fight, but i finally got the usb cable connection working and firmware updated this morning. :)

I run my Profilux wireless with my bridge, never had a problem. I always get email alerts on my phone.
I can control my controller on the net at work or my from home computer with the wireless.

My bridge is a 4 port. I also have 2 cameras on the wireless network, they both work great.
Never had a issue.

There is nothing wrong with using wireless but a wired connection is more reliable and easier to troubleshoot than a wireless connection. I will always go with a wired connection over wireless unless you just can't run the physical wire because of cost or location.

Depends on the bridge your using.
The one I have has a switch in the back that puts the router in bridge mode, its that easy, other then setting the security code it does not get easier then that.

Like i said before, its has 4 ports. So you make anything within the area wireless.

For those that want to know, its a DLINK DAP-1522

Thats the same unit I tried with - 18 support calls to D-Link, got it connected but it would freeze the router, in the end it got sent back and I simply ran a 50' cable
