If you have dual overflows I think it is fine. I have a 9.5 on my 90 and wish I would have went with the 12.
I have also been told you only want as much flow through your sump as your skimmer can skim, and make up the rest of the flow with cl or ph.

Well, throttling back might reduce noise and save some electricity, but I don't personally think the Chaetomorpha much cares, as long as it's not being shredded. I'd probably only target about 300 gph through the sump, but if you are happy with the setup, I'd say leave it alone.
but its not like the nitrates are on a conveyor belt and the chaeto has to grab them as they go by....
