Woke up to my clam dislodged this morning

Woke up to a sideways clam this morning. He's been in his spot for almost 3 months now and all of the sudden he just popped right off. Doesn't look like he's gonna make it, but I moved him down to the sand bed and hopefully he'll get a little happier once the MH come on.

Yep, he gets his fair share 2 times a week like to rest of the lps crew I have left in the 55. I've moved most sps down to the 20g to get ready for the big switch to the 90. Which should be in and cycling by the end of the month.

On a side note, I've read that they only need to be fed when babies? and once they reach ~4" they feed off the light? I could be 100% wrong

I wonder what went wrong. Everything was fine until yesterday. It wasn't open all the way and was a little pale. I can't believe it survived two crashes and now for no foreseen reason its dying. So upset :'(

I don't specifically "feed" the clam but I'm sure it must suck a bit of phyto here and there since it's in the coral food.

clam filters the water, you should not need to directly feed the clam. hmmm do a check on your params anything out of the ordinary? I lost my babies a few months back but it was due to my angel developing a taste for them. 60 bux vs 100+ i let the angel win lol

That's most likely the culprit here. Our bicolor has been developing tastes for things I would like her not to... well taste haha. Saltychick's setting up her 57 at the same time I'm setting up the 90. Her tank will be the new home for the bicolor

ahhhh yes, sucks guys but it happens.... no worries Puppy Center always stocks beautiful CLAMS! ;).... GL guys, and Salty chick im hating on your Tank! lol i wanted to buy it but was 1 PM too late lol

How come u feed the clam? And I'm curious what u feed it...

I have a very small maybe two inches at max clam I was told it needed to be feed photo and a mix of a little of this reef dry food I have it's a mix of stuff but I drop it above it to let if float around it twic a week should I not do this?

Honestly this is the first I've heard of anyone ever feeding clams... However I know very little about clams, it's jus the action of doin so took me by surprise based on everything I've learned to this point, little or not... Here is the first thing that popped up in search... Does mentioned a small supplementation of phyto here and there at most... But overall I think the consensus is that it's not necessary by any means...

It may not be necessary but we think of it like a treat (like a dog gets a cookie). The clam seems to really like it. So we kept doing it. I wouldn't tell anyone to feed or not to feed. But I do know that it works...well worked, for us. Our clam was the healthiest thing in the tank up until yesterday.

Noticed u said ur looking for a light I have a mh pc setup ment to go in a hood it's two 250 watt mh and 2 pc and s single dual ballast for mh and a ballast for pc asking 50 for it not sure if u wanna go mh

They are supposed to be fed phyto a few times a week until they get to about 4" because of something with their mantles. They also aren't supposed to be under super light until the hit about 4" because their mantles are to thin and there isn't enough zooanthelle (not sure if that's spelled right or not) or something like that. I wish I could remember where I read that, lol

She's looking for a light for her 57 cube. I'm gonna use the light I have on the 55 now, as the light on my 90. Except modify it slightly but pulling out the back power compact and adding 2 t5ho bulbs instead. The ballast is blown on the back pc so I figured why not. Might even just replace both pc with t5s

yea i just need a basic 38" light. not going to have any coral or anything like that so for now just the most basic light that wont cost alot so i can have it up an running when the 90 is cycled to switch our dwarf angel.
